Dharwad, Aug 28: The high court bench here, on Thursday August 27, issued interim stay against the summons and inquiry process initiated by the JMFC court at Gokak. Chief minister B S Yediyurappa has been accused of violating election code of conduct.
A complaint was lodged against Yediyurappa on November 26, 2019, accusing him of delivering an address during the bypoll to Gokak assembly constituency which was on the lines of provoking a particular community. The complainant had said that this was a clear case of violation of election code of conduct.
The chief JMFC court at Gokak, which had received the complaint, had issued summons seeking personal appearance in the court on June 26. The criminal petition filed by Yediyurappa, which was taken up by a bench comprising Justice Suraj Govindaraj, had heard arguments placed by the sides, and reserved its orders.
Senior advocates C V Nagesh and Sandeep Pail, had argued on behalf of the petitioner.
