Mangalore, Mar 22: If everything goes on as planned, a long-time dream of the people from the region, who fly to the national capital frequently, will come true on March 28. On the day, Air India is scheduled to operate its first direct flight from the city to New Delhi.
The flight, which will touch down at the local airport from Kozhikode, will fly non-stop to New Delhi. This flight is scheduled to take about four hours and fifteen minutes. On its return journey, it will touch the city airport before continuing its journey to Kozhikode, said Air India sources.
Union minister for civil aviation, Praful Patel, had recently announced in the parliament the department’s intention to operate more direct flights to the national capital from additional sectors.
It is learnt that initially, three flights per week will be operated on the route. In course of time, Air India plans to begin daily flights. New flights will also be operated to New Delhi from Coimbatore, Amritsar and Dehradun too, it is learnt.
As of now, the city is connected by daily direct flights to Bangalore, Mumbai, Goa and Kozhikode. New Delhi will be the new destination of a direct flight. As of now, 40 national and international flights operate from the airport here.
