Dubai postal worker praised for handing in $4,500 find
Dubai - Mar 21: Emirates Post has honoured Ignatius Anthony Antao, a sorter at the Ramoul Postal Sorting Centre, for his honesty in handing over cash he found worth US$4,500 (Dh16,500), according to the state news agency WAM.
The money was found in an unaddressed envelope during routine mail sorting and was handed in by Mr Antao, WAM reported on Thursday.
Ibrahim Bin Karam, CEO of Emirates Post, presented a certificate of appreciation and a gift to Mr Antao at a function held at the Emirates Post head office in Dubai recently.
“We are pleased to publicly recognise this act of honesty and hope it will inspire other employees to always keep moral principles and integrity in mind, irrespective of their position or rank,” said Bin Karam.
“We are happy to express our high regard for Ignatius, who despite his humble situation, showed exemplary behaviour by handing over the open envelope to his manager.”
Hand-held radar snares 400 drivers in capital
ABU DHABI - MAR 21: In just two weeks, new hand-held radar cameras being used by Abu Dhabi Police have caught 400 speeders, one going as fast as 204kph.
Some have had their vehicles confiscated, police said yesterday.
The initiative was introduced by the traffic and patrol division to set up mobile radars in areas not served by stationary cameras posted to catch speeders.
According to a police statement yesterday, the campaign was launched in the first week of this month across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra as a part of a “crackdown on illegal speeding dangerous driving”.
Col Hussein al Harthi, director of the traffic and patrol department, expressed outrage over the excessive speeding detected in the two weeks since then, the statement said.
Impounded vehicles are kept in a police yard until the drivers pay a fee to have them released. The amount of the fine was not announced.
In the statement, Col al Harthi reaffirmed his commitment to monitoring the roads with mobile radars as a means of combating dangerous driving.
He warned young people who drive in an “uncivilised” way that they can face arrest and see their vehicles and licenses confiscated if they are caught speeding or otherwise behaving dangerously on the roads.
