Mangaluru, Aug 17: As part of service activity 'Hasira Madilu' by Lion Club International 317D, district governor Ln Geethaprakash Pmjf ‘s programme 20-21, Lions club Mangaluru Balmatta conducted a 'FREE EMISSION TEST' for autorickshaws at MACO petrol pump Balmatta premises.
The programme was inaugurated by traffic inspector G K Bhat of Kadri Traffic Police Station. President Lion Linet Dsouza welcomed the chief guest with a bouquet of flowers. G K Bhat spoke a few words of motivation about how Lions Clubs are continuously doing great service to the society amidst the COVID situation. The activity took place from 9 am to 1 pm and there were a total of 62 rickshaws that benefited from this activity.
Along with the free emission test, Diabetics awareness pamphlets were distributed to these beneficiaries and others around that area. RC Lion Umesh Prabhu visited the place and motivated the members to do well. The whole programme was organized by Lion Errol pinto of Lions Club Balmatta. Treasurer Ln Stany Lasrado, secretary Ln Preetham Kunder, Ln Avil Dsouza, Ln Simon Lobo, Ln Lancy Carlo were present for the programme.
During this corona lockdown challenge, Ln Vinod Devasia of International President’s Programme coordinator of Lions district 317D has come up with a website for diabetes awareness, where the general public from anywhere in the world can conduct an online diabetes awareness campaign, which is the signature cause of Lions and Leos around the world.
Our goal is that every person who does the survey becomes aware of his/her risk of diabetes and starts taking preventive action, thus helping him/her to avoid becoming type 2 diabetics. It is free for all and there is a translator option in the app. The test taker can choose between English, Hindi, Marati, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and other regional languages. This service can be done anytime, anywhere especially during the lockdown period.
