Mangaluru, Aug 15: On the occasion of the 74th Independence, St Agnes Institutions gathered together at the college campus on August 15 to celebrate the event.
The chief guest of the day, Sr Dr Lydia Fernandes AC, the Superior and the joint secretary of St Agnes Institutions unfurled the national flag. The singing of the National Anthem echoed throughout the campus. The principal of St Agnes College, Sr Dr Venessa AC, the administrator of St Agnes College, Sr Carmel Rita AC, were the other dignitaries.
The programme began with a prayer service led by the college staff. Samrudhi, the head girl of St Agnes CBSE School delivered a speech on the significance of the day and reminded everyone to reflect over the hard earned gift of Indian Independence. Sr Dr Lydia Fernandes AC in her speech mentioned the true meaning of freedom. The feeling of Mother India was awakened through a patriotic song.
In connection with this celebration, a series of online competitions were arranged for the students of SAS. These competitions were planned during the first week of August. The competitions are a fusion of talent, imagination, creativity and alertness. Traditional dress, card making, singing, fancy dress on national symbols and freedom fighters were some of the competitions conducted for the students’ upto grade 5. Grade 6 to 10 had role-play, poster making, drawing and tricolour badges. The winners and the participants were appreciated with e-certificates for their wonderful performance. The management and staff congratulated all the participants and valued the contribution of the parents in inculcating patriotism in the young minds.
