Mumbai, Mar 14: Yusuf Pathan scored a hurricane 37-ball century but could not save Rajasthan Royals from suffering a heart-wrenching four-run defeat against Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Brabourne Stadium here Saturday.
Chasing a tough target of 213, Rajasthan Royals made 208 for seven in 20 overs after Pathan smashed the quickest century in IPL and the second fastest in Twenty20. Pathan was also adjudged the Man of the Match.
Pathan and Paras Dogra (41), with their 107-run stand, took the Royals close to a win after they had slumped to 69 for four in the 10th over. At the time Pathan and Dogra were batting, it seemed the match was slowly slipping out of the hands of Mumbai Indians, who made 212 for six in 20 overs.
Pathan reached his fifty in just 21 balls and hit nine fours and eight sixes during his stay. Both Dogra and Pathan were run out and the Royals' chase ran out of steam.
Earlier, riding on half-centuries from Ambati Rayudu (55) and Sourabh Tiwary (53), Mumbai Indians put up an impressive score.
Rayudu, who had joined the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL), struck a 30-ball fifty while Tiwary got to his fifty in 30 balls.
