Shivamogga, Jul 31: The police personnel of Tunganagar station here and staff of the child helpline busted a racket that was trying to sell a 15 days old male baby. The team not only rescued the child but also arrested four persons.
The arrested persons happen to be Shyla, Suma, Tulasi and Shanmukha, all from Tippu Nagar here.
The team raided a house in Tippu Nagar and took into custody people involved with trading the child. They found that a woman who runs a beauty parlour in Tippu Nagar had prepared to sell the above baby at her residence with the help of a local lady. The child has been handed over to a relative of Suma. The police learnt that all preparations to sell the child for Rs 1.5 lac had been made. The family members said during the questioning that they had decided to sell the child in view of family poverty and the mentally insane condition of the child's mother. The three women have been kept in the women's counselling centre.
The police are trying to find out the possible involvement of any other people in this activity.
