Bengaluru, Jul 29: The state high court (HC), in clear terms, refused permission to hand over investigation into the sedition case filed against Amulya Leona Noronha to National Investigation Agency (NIA) for investigation. Amulya was booked for raising slogan hailing Pakistan during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
The petition filed by Mandya-based advocate, Vishal Raghu, seeking to hand over the above investigation to NIA came up before the division bench of the HC headed by Chief Justice A S Oka on Tuesday.

The bench which scrutinized the points mentioned in the petition observed that a scrutiny of the criminal acts mentioned in the first information report makes it prima facie clear that the nature of the case is not serious enough to deserve NIA investigation. It said that there is no need for it and disposed the petition.
The bench, observing earlier that the advocate for the petitioner had absented from the hearing, expressed strong disapproval.
Amulya Leona, who raised pro-Pakistan slogan during the anti CAA protest, had been arrested by Upparpet police on February 20 earlier this year and conducted investigation.
