Follow Delhi's home quarantine model: Goa AAP to Sawant

Panaji, Jul 21 (IANS): The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Goa on Tuesday urged Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to adopt the Delhi government's model of home quarantine for the asymptomatic Covid-19 patients, as videos of poorly maintained Covid care centres and other corona related health facilities in the state have gone viral.

"Home isolation is a tried and tested protocol that reduces load on infrastructure, provides better care, and removes the fear and stigma associated with Covid," Aam Aadmi Party Goa convenor Elvis Gomes said on Tuesday.

"Successful experiment of home quarantining asymptomatic patients in Delhi can be customised in Goa," said Gomes.

Goa is seeing a surge in Covid-19 cases, with nearly 200 cases being reported on a daily basis through the week. The state currently has over 1,400 active Covid-19 cases.

According to the state government's SOP, symptomatic patients are admitted to the state's only Covid-19 hospital in South Goa, while asymptomatic patients are housed in numerous designated Covid care centres, which have been set up across the state.

However, in recent days, videos depicting alleged mismanagement at the Covid care centres and unhygienic conditions in their interiors have gone viral. All this has been mentioned in Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat's petition to Goa Governor Satya Pal Malik on Tuesday.

"I have received various complaints from the Covid positive patients, their relatives, medical practitioners and others regarding mismanagement in the Covid Hospital and Covid Care Centres," Kamat said in his petition to Malik.

Kamat has also demanded that the state government present a white paper on its preparedness to handle the Covid-19 pandemic.

"There are various photographs and videos which are circulated in the social media highlighting the pathetic conditions of the facilities provided to the patients by the government," Kamat said.
