Mangaluru, Jul 17: Under the guidance of Civil Defence staff and Captain, Shakin Raj Associate NCC Army Officer of St Aloysius College (Autonomous) here, 18 Karnataka Battalion, Mangaluru group, nine cadets and three former cadets joined at Home Guards Commandant’s office Maryhill. These cadets were guided by Dr Muralee Mohan Choontharu, chief Warden of Civil Defence Force, DK Commandant of Home Guards DK.
• Blood donation programme
The civil defence volunteers were called to the commandant’s office on May 3 for a blood donation programme. Doctors and medical staff from Wenlock Hospital were present. Majority of NCC cadets donated blood.
• First aid class
A first aid class was organised on May 23 by the volunteers. The resource person was Dr Ramachandra Bhat, CPR, snake and venomous bite, fractures, bleeding aid was taught to the civil defence volunteers.
Immune booster homeopathy medicine was distributed free of cost to all the civil defence volunteers by the commandant.
• Mask and hand sanitizer distribution
Cadets along with the commandant visited a construction site at Padil and distributed masks, hand sanitizers free of cost to the migrant workers and doctors who were called to arrange an awareness programme and examine the migrant workers.
• Mask and hand sanitizer distribution
Cadets along with the commandant visited Jeppu market and distributed masks and hand sanitizers and immune booster homeopathy medicine free of cost to the rickshaw drivers. The cadets prepared face masks at home which were later distributed.
• Basic disaster management training with practical session
Instructors from fame adventure academy on May 29 engaged classes of basic fire fighting personal safety during rescue operations and casualty evacuation drills.
• Training with SDRF
The training was conducted on June 1 by SDRF and KSFES. SDRF instructors from Home Guard Academy Bengaluru conducted classes on flood rescue, basic. The duration of the course was one week.
• Training with NDRF
The cadets attached with the civil defence force had an excellent opportunity to get trained on June 8 by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) 10th battalion Vijayada Guntur.
Training provided was:

? Medical first responder course
? Rope evacuation drills (Tiger Lift)
? Practical classes in handling rescue equipments
? Waterman course
? 1)Inflatable rubber boat (IRB) assembly and disassembly
? 2)Out boat motor (OBM) operation, motorised boat driving
? 3)Rescue diving and rescue swimming
? 4) Systematic entry to unknown waters and many more.
• Tree plantation 28 JUNE 2020
Fruit bearing sapling plantation programme in collaboration with Karnataka Forest Department was carried out for on June 28 for 50 fruit bearing saplings in Daregudde, Moodbidri.
• Landslide at Buglegunde Gurupura
Few cadets of the college on July 5 visited the landslide area in Gurupura where two children were dead in that incident. The cadets helped them as much as they could by serving water to the front workers. NDRF and SDRF personnel were present at the site.
Col Manoj VU Commanding Officer, Lt Col Gracian Sequeira (AO) of 18 Kar Battalion NCC Mangalore Group rendered their support in whichever way it was possible. Principal, Fr Dr Praveen Martis, SJ appreciated the NCC cadets for their involvement in the commendable work.
