Mangaluru/Udupi, Jul 16: In a major spike which is the single-day highest ever in the district, Dakshina Kannada on Thursday July 16 recorded 238 cases and six deaths. Meanwhile, Udupi reported 109 new cases and two deaths.
As per the district health bulletin, a total of 26,111 samples have been sent for tests so far. As many as 23,348 have turned out negative, and 2,763 are positive till date. Out of these, 1,537 cases are currently active. As many as 1,163 persons have recovered and been discharged, and 63 deaths have occurred so far including six on Thursday.
As many as 74 patients were discharged on Thursday from Wenlock as well as private hospitals.
Of the 238 who tested positive on Thursday, 23 are primary contacts, 106 have ILI symptoms, 17 have SARI symptoms, 19 has international travel history, and contacts of 73 are being traced.
The patients whose deaths were reported on Thursday are a 44-year-old male from Mulki who also had acute kidney disease and was on ventilator, a 68-year-old male from Belgaum who had diabetes and hyperkalemia, a 62-year-old male from Mangaluru who had chronic liver disease, a 66-year-old male from Mangaluru who was also suffering from diabetes, acute kidney disease and was on ventilator, a 47-year-old female from Bantwal suffering from diabetes, and a 76-year-old female from Mangaluru who was suffering from SARI and multi-organ dysfunction.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 4,875 people have completed 28 days of quarantine, and a total of 4,875 have completed 14 days of quarantine. As many as 1,929 persons are currently in home quarantine.
A total of 155 people are in isolation wards, including 12 fresh admissions on Thursday. Among the new admissions, one is a coronavirus suspect, seven have SARI and four influenza-like illness.
As many as 1,215 people, including 17 on Thursday, have been discharged from isolation wards so far.
A total of 23,645 samples have been collected so far, including 537 on Thursday, out of which 31 are COVID suspects and 308 are COVID contacts. Out of them, 21,156 samples have turned out to be negative, including 489 on Thursday, and 594 reports are awaited.
As many as 1,895 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 109 on Thursday. As many as 1,462 patients have been discharged so far including 80 on Thursday, and 428 cases are currently active. Seven deaths have occurred so far including two on Thursday - a 54-year-old man from Byndoor and a 49-year-old man from Udupi. One positive case has been transferred to Dakshina Kannada.
The 109 cases reported today include 61 men, 40 women and eight children. As many as 36 belong to Udupi taluk, 62 are from Kundapur and 11 from Karkala. Among the 109 cases, 11 came from Mumbai, 15 from Bengaluru, one each from Hyderbad and Dubai, two from Davanagere, 17 with ILI symptoms, two with SARI symptoms and 49 are primary contacts of earlier positive tested patients.
