New Delhi, Feb 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to Delhi's newly sworn-in Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, and her Cabinet, expressing confidence in their ability to deliver effective governance. Addressing the grand oath-taking ceremony at Ramlila Maidan, the Prime Minister highlighted the balanced blend of youth and experience in Gupta’s team.
Taking to social media, PM Modi wrote on X, “Congratulations to Smt. Rekha Gupta Ji on taking oath as Delhi’s Chief Minister. She has risen from the grassroots, having been active in campus politics, state organization, municipal administration, and now serving as an MLA and Chief Minister. I am confident she will work for Delhi’s development with full vigour. My best wishes for a fruitful tenure.”

He also extended his greetings to the six newly appointed Ministers—Parvesh Singh Verma, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra, and Pankaj Kumar Singh—acknowledging their diverse expertise and commitment to governance. “This team beautifully mixes vigour and experience and will surely ensure good governance for Delhi,” he wrote.
The oath-taking ceremony was attended by top BJP leaders and Chief Ministers from NDA-ruled states, signaling a strong show of unity and intent as the party reclaimed power in the national capital after a 27-year gap.
With Rekha Gupta taking charge, she becomes the fourth woman Chief Minister of Delhi, following Sheila Dikshit, Sushma Swaraj, and Atishi. She is also the fourth BJP leader to assume this role after Madan Lal Khurana, Sahib Singh Verma, and Sushma Swaraj.
Her government is expected to hit the ground running, with the first Cabinet meeting scheduled at the Delhi Secretariat at 3 PM. Among the key policy priorities is the implementation of the Mahila Samriddhi Yojna, which promises a monthly allowance of ?2,500 for women beneficiaries. The Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme is also likely to be greenlit as part of the administration’s initial steps.
Meanwhile, Rekha Gupta has signaled a tough stance on corruption, vowing to hold accountable those involved in irregularities under the previous AAP government. “Those in power for 12 years in Delhi will be answerable for their actions,” she stated earlier in the day.
The political landscape of Delhi has dramatically shifted, with BJP’s victory reaffirming its influence in the national capital. One of the most notable moments of the election was Parvesh Singh Verma’s victory over former Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal by a margin of over 3,000 votes, a result seen as a major upset.
As the new government takes charge, all eyes are on Rekha Gupta’s leadership and the BJP’s roadmap for transforming governance in Delhi.
