Karkala, Jul 16: Congress has made allegations on Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar that he has received kickback from the contractor to whom the contract of government job is awarded.
MLA Sunil Kumar was accused of using hundreds of bags of cement from the contractor for constructing his private office. Congress party has also released videos supporting the allegations. This allegation was made by Shubhada Rao, Congress leader and member of Karkala city municipality.

In the private land belonging to Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar, which is situated by the side of taluk panchayat road, a multi-story office building is being built. Cement of Ultra Tech, the bags of which carry 'Not for Sale' seal are being used in the construction according to the allegations made by Congress.
Karkala Congress had decided to raise a complaint in this regard to chief minister Yediyurappa and Lokayukta. Shubhad Rao had urged a high level inquiry into the matter.
MLA Sunil Kumar on Thursday July 16 denied the allegations and gave clarification on the accusations made by Congress. In a press release, Sunil Kumar said, "The design and construction contract of the building that is being built at Kukkundoor area of Karkala taluk is given to architect Pramal Kumar. The building is given to Srishti Ventures Industrial area Nandikoor in a contract which was made in 2019.
"There is clear cut clarification about trade and non-trade cement in the rules of the cement company itself. Non-trade cement and the company sells directly to customer. It cannot be resold again hence a ‘not for sale’ seal is put on the bags.
"According to the contract, the complete construction work of the building is being done by Srishti venture and I do not have any responsibility in the same. Congress and my enemies are making baseless allegations.
"Some years ago, I was accused of owning 50 trucks and doing mining business in Ballari. They also accused about the caste of my parents. They also said that I own hotels in Mumbai. So far no proof is provided by them and none of the accusations are proved.
"This is a clear tactic of blackmailing by Congress. They are making use of some people who have donned the role of journalists. I will file a defamation case against them in the court of law. I am ready to face any investigation,” he said.
