Udupi: First day of border seal down - No major impact on citizens

Udupi, Jul 16: On the first day of lockdown on Thursday, July 16 Udupi city looked normal and daily activities appeared to be going on as before. All the shops, markets, shopping malls, clinics, hospitals, hotels, industries, etc are working as before. Due to the sealing down of borders in the district, the city, service and government buses have suspended operations for the next 14 days. The lockdown affected employees, travellers, and others who are dependent on buses for their regular travel. Auto rickshaws and taxis are operating.

Some of the shopping centres have been voluntarily closed down because of meagre business.

Some streets in the city are busy, as most of the people came out on their own vehicles. The district administration has given permission to goods vehicles moving between districts. Around 10 borders were sealed to avoid unnecessary movements of vehicles. They are Hejamadi, Shiroor, Hosangadi, Sanur, Someshwar, Kolluru, Bajagoli, Kanthavara, Alagundi of Saccheripete and Sankalri.

Inter-district moment between Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada was stopped on Wednesday, July 15 at 8 pm. Police will work in three shifts in the district in order to provide 24-hour service. Check posts have been installed at all district borders.

    Dear sir,
    I had come on Tuesday to hometown. Now on emergency I have to go back to banglore to operate banking service smoothly... One of the employee working with me is not well in branch and I have to go and replace him... I am using my personal vehicle to drop me ... How can I go sir..... I have to travel tomorrow early morning.... Please give some suggestions...

    I have noticed government bus is running for UDUPI DC OFFICE staffs but there is no bus service for normal people wihin the district. This is really unfair from UDUPI DC, different rules for his office staff and normal people. Why his office staffs cannot use private transport?
    Sealdown the borders will affect commercial activities, since the flights are operating from Mangalore/ Bangalore airport and the people who have already made the arrangement to fly have been troubled. UDUPI DC should announce user friendly rules to cross the borders for such activities, the DC PASS which is available currently is not an easy option as we need to visit tashlidar office to apply and takes time to get but DK DC announced travel tickets will serve as a pass, it's a great decision from her and favour of people.
    The major cities Bangalore/ Mangalore have applied complete lockdown for 7 days to control the flow of covid-19 but in Udupi only few commercial business stopped and border sealdown for 14 days. What if the people wants to travel neighbouring districts after 7 days. UDUPI DC should view all these things and apply unique rules so that normal people live their life easily and can do their regular works by moving neighbour districts.

    It's basically depriving a common man from earning a living. People who enforce lock down get good monthly salary and perks. Common man daily wagers and commission agents are in trouble.
    I am forced to stay at home when I have to feed 3 people.
    Hope God gives wisdom and border lock out may be opened.

    Udupi DC is atleast taken a sensible decision rather than locking down the commercial activities.

    In mlore also the same should be followed and testing should be increased.

    Good for nothing fire MP and other two MLAs dont have any clue as to what is happening.

    Only our dear Khader bhai is working hard

    Atleast Private Buses should have been allowed. Would can afford Rickshaw's for 14 day's. This is Lock down only. Now people will again loose their Jobs. Why DC is putting public in trouble by suspending Buses for 14 day's ? Working class people who were depended on Buses to go for daily work to Udupi will be the great sufferers.
