Udupi, Jul 14: The life of farmers is becoming miserable due to lack of labourers and coronavirus. Catholic Sabha Udupi in the midst of these problems joined its Kalyanpur zonal committee and likeminded groups following the message of love by supreme priest of Catholics, Pope Francis and began cultivation in the ten acre deserted land here.

They began planting paddy saplings in the land. Catholic Sabha Udupi president Alwyn Qadros handed over the saplings for planting. He said that inclination towards agriculture was possible as several people employed abroad have returned without jobs.

Zonal committee president Santhosh Corneleo said the land of ten acre had remained deserted for the last 25 years. Cultivation on five acre will be carried out manually and on the remaining five acre with the help of machinery. “It is a small attempt to make the environment green.”

Catholic Sabha Kalyanpur zone secretary, Rosy Quadros, president assigned Rosy Baretto, treasurer Felix Pinto, co-treasurer Urban Louis, central committee former president, Valerian Fernandes and zonal office bearers were present.
