Bengaluru zoo shut during Covid lockdown

Bengaluru, Jul 14 (IANS): The Bengaluru zoo will be shut during the citywide lockdown from July 14 to 22 amid a spike in Covid cases, an official said on Tuesday.

"All units of Bengaluru Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBBP) will not be available for public visit. Visitors are requested to cooperate in this regard," said executive director Vanashree Vipin Singh.

Other units of the zoo, including safari and butterfly park, will also be shut during the lockdown.

The Karnataka government is imposing a complete lockdown in Bengaluru urban and rural districts, alarmed by the spike in infection in the city averaging more than 2,000 a day.

A total lockdown has been imposed from July 14 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. on July 22.

The BBBP is a unit of the Zoo Authority of Karnataka and one of the few places where wildlife is preserved in the vicinity of a city like Bengaluru.
