Mangaluru/Udupi, Jul 12: Dakshina Kannada on Sunday July 12 recorded another steep spike in coronavirus cases, with as many as 196 cases and five deaths reported in the district. Meanwhile, Udupi reported 41 new cases and one death.
As per the district health bulletin, a total of 24,741 samples have been sent for tests so far. As many as 22,511 have turned out negative, and 2,230 are positive till date. Out of these, 1,308 cases are currently active. As many as 876 persons have recovered and been discharged, and 46 deaths have occured so far, including five on Sunday alone.
It is learnt that 18 of the new cases were reported in Ullal alone.
As many as 94 patients were discharged on Sunday from Wenlock as well as private hospitals.
Of the 196 who tested positive on Sunday, 20 are primary contacts, 91 have ILI symptoms, 16 have SARI symptoms, 10 have international travel history, two samples were collected pre-delivery, and contacts of 57 are being traced.
The COVID-19 patients whose deaths were reported on Sunday are a 72-year-old male from Beltangady who also had diabetes, a 50-year-old male who suffered from diabetes and was on ventilator, a 58-year-old female who was diabetic as well as a heart patient, a 68-year-old female who suffered from diabetes and was in ICU, and a 55-year-old male who had SARI.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 4,875 people have completed 28 days of quarantine, including 4 on Sunday, and a total of 4,875 have completed 14 days of quarantine. As many as 1,304 persons are currently in home quarantine.
A total of 140 people are in isolation wards, including 22 fresh admissions on Sunday. Among the new admissions, ten have SARI and 12 influenza-like illness.
As many as 1,273 people, including 28 on Sunday, have been discharged from isolation wards so far.
A total of 22,327 samples have been collected so far, including 269 on Sunday, out of which 115 are COVID suspects and 141 are COVID contacts. Out of them, 18,863 samples have turned out to be negative, including 573 on Sunday, and 1,856 reports are awaited.
As many as 1,608 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 41 on Sunday. As many as 1,273 patients have been discharged so far, and 332 cases are currently active. Three deaths have occured so far, including one on Sunday which is shifted to Davangere. One positive case has been transferred to Dakshina Kannada.
Among the new cases, two have travel history to Mumbai, one to Saudi Arabia, six have inter-district travel history, and 32 are primary contacts of earlier patients. The patients include 26 men, 11 women and four children. As many as 26 belong to Udupi taluk, 11 are from Kundapur and four from Karkala.
