Mangaluru, Jul 11: Sindhu B Rupesh, deputy commissioner (DC) of Dakshina Kannada district on Saturday July 11 said that a team of 13 medical officers will start working to assess the reasons for increasing number of coronavirus deaths of late in the district.

She said, "The district administration is equipped to face the increasing number of Covid-19 cases. As many as 2,282 beds are kept ready and it has the capacity to arrange another 13,000 beds. As much as 50% beds are reserved in private hospitals and 34 ventilators are available in Wenlock hospital. There are 22 patients in the ICU.

“Thirty-five flights have arrived in the district from abroad with 5,632 people. As many as 7,532 people have arrived from outside the state and 3,531 people are in home quarantine.

“FIRs are registered against 40 people who violated quarantine rules. Forty people have been sent back for institutional quarantine. Notices are issued to 889 people.

“There are 470 containment zones in the district. Highest positive cases of 174 are reported from Ullal. Asha workers have visited 7,20,152 houses so far.

“There are possibilities of coronavirus reaching community transmission level as more and more cases are being reported,” the DC said.

    50% beds reserved in private hospitals @ rate of 10k per day for the general ward. Forget poor people, can a middle class person stay in the general ward paying 10k/ day????

    With seven Medical Colleges ,many hospitals , thousands of healthcare workers , & ICU beds DK must be the best equipped in the country to handle this pandemic. Hope these hospitals and colleges join hands with the Government hospital to deal with the situation effectively.

    It is hard to believe that nowadays corona virus has accelerating its speed limit,resulting increase in numbers the positive cases on daily basis.Under this circumstances it is always easy said than done but controlling and containing the spread of corona virus is a herculean task.People will criticize for everything we do whether it is good or bad and pass negative comments.It should be there always.Then only good thing will come out.But one should have practical experience then only people will realize.
    Same time some allegations of torturing,manipulation in billing ,overcharging, variation in positive tests reports,delay in tests reports and harassing and ignoring the covid patient by the private hospitals is being heard from different quarters but some hospitals have given their justification on their stand.But proper investigation only will reveal the truth.
    My earnest and humble request with the concerned departments,related authorities is to come forward and clear the dust of doubts from the general public's mind and streamline the system without any black dots and should be transparency in the system.
    Now public only impose self quarantine,understand and realize the situation and realize how serious the impact of the Corona virus .We can not expect everything from the government.Each one teach one.Follow the government's orders of maintaining the distance,wearing mask and frequent sanitation .If every one of us follow and adhere to these rules,very soon we will be able to contain the spread of Corona Virus.Sarve Janah Sukhino Bhavantu.Wishing all the best to everybody

    Looking at the increasing number of +ve cases and deaths, it is clear that Mangalore/ Udupi require to break the chain; so lock down is very much needed.
    Also, some of the TV channels show the "Karma Kanda" of pvt hospitals in treating patients, it is required to put a full stop to the spread chain.
    Prevention is better than cure!

    Lockdown is not the only solution to the problem, that every other day one person pops up here and says “lets lockdown the city”. Doing this have u given a thought of what will happen to that large number of people whose homes run on their daily earnings? Rather a solution would be where citizens themselves become self aware of the consequences and avoid getting out of the houses unnecessarily. This way the speed of disease spread can be reduced and the daily lives of people are also not exploited. Hence think of becoming a reaponsible citizens than a commanding one

    I do not know why they (concerned officials/departments) are still conducting exams.

    Cases are increasing every day but they want to conduct exams and they are not considering mental health of the students.

    It is very strange when majority of students do not favour it. I have seen many supporters (strong ones also) are angry especially because abvp is bent on conducting exams. They are harming themselves in the elections.

    Exams are important, but exams are not life. You should come out of this mind-set, he said. (PM MODI ji SAID THIS BUT ABVP AND OTHER MINISTERS ARE BEHAVING OTHERWISE)

    I do not want to involve in politics but nobody is helping/supporting. Everyone is scattered.
    It is difficult to get strong support without involving in politics.

    Conducting exams has become a political issue now.
    ABVP (BJP affiliated) for conducting exams Vs NSUI (INC affiliated) for postponing/cancelling exams. Politics included.

    The mental health of students has gone for a toss. Nobody's really helping either. When suicides happen, people give condolences and forget about it later.
    People don't take students seriously (It is not a drama all the time) and that is sad.
