Mangaluru, Jul 9: The coronavirus infection cases in Dakshina Kannada district are continuously increasing. But the fact that the source of infection could not be detected in more than half of the cases has posed a huge challenge for the health department.
The district has witnessed 514 infections during the last 11 days. But the department has not been able so far to establish from where these people got infected. The number includes people who got admitted into the hospital for treatment for symptoms like fever, cold, cough, breathing difficulty etc. There are also people who were randomly tested when they visited hospitals for the treatment of other problems. It appears as if those who did not have any primary or secondary contact also are suffering from this infection. A separate team of doctors has been working to find the primary and secondary sources of infection.
Till Wednesday, 1,542 coronavirus positive cases have been confirmed and 819 are being treated in different hospitals. As many as 28 have lost their lives and 695 have cured.
In Ullal, after a woman died of the infection, 160 persons in the area were randomly tested. Out of them, 60 were found to be suffering from the infection. It is said that if such random tests are performed in other places too, a large number of coronavirus positive cases might emerge.
