Mangaluru: Coronavirus-positive patient escapes from Wenlock, police seek public help

Mangaluru, Jul 5: A man who was undergoing treatment for coronavirus at the city's Wenlock hospital has allegedly escaped from the hospital.

A native of Darbe in Puttur, who lives in his grandmother's house in Mangaluru, the 18-year-old youngster, identified as Devaraj, escaped from the hospital on Sunday July 5, sources said.

The youngster had voluntarily visited Wenlock on July 1 to get himself tested for coronavirus. As he displayed symptoms of the virus, he was shifted to COVID ward where doctors were treating him.

On Sunday, his swab test reported confirmed that he had contracted the virus.

At around 4 pm the same day, the youth allegedly escaped from the hospital.

Pandeshwar police have registered a case and search has been launched to locate him. Police have requested help from the public too, and have urged people to contact the control room on 9480802300 or Pandeshwar police on 0824-2220530 if they have any information about his whereabouts.

    Patients doesn't intend to stay in hospital or any quarantine facilities coz of the pathetic service and living condition. Patients prefer to die at their home then such area where least care is taken.

    This 18 year old visited voluntarily, but escaped after seeing the condition of the hospital and the service probably. So who is to blame here??

    Being a young patient he should have been let off by giving symptomatic treatment, & advised strict home quarantine!!
    Hope with fear of the police behind him, he doesn't head to Netravati bridge!!

    H.Almeida Bendur,First of all young man is risking himself ,second he infects others without taking care.such a careless person .About security at wenlock,?is not a problem ,suppose you offer him some money and say he will be back in 5 minutes ,want to drink a coffee,he certainly might allow.Or as security was absent ,too slipped away.Search him where he was previously living or working.Every perso must be aware of this deadly virus and its effect,and be happy to have a place to be cured.

    I agree .As community spread has set in now there is no point in hospitalization for no/mild symptoms also no point in quarantine. The virus is everywhere and you cannot avoid it. There is no point in chasing the virus ,the fact is the virus is successful in chasing us.

    Yes, being positive is not always means he will infect, Most probably he is asymptomatic to covid other than some normal cold infection symptoms. Being in the bracket of safe age group he will recover without any major health issues too. He should have been in home quarantine according to present recommendation of expert panel.
    One interesting point- on Sunday there was total curfew so how come he escaped, by walking or using whose vehicle?
