Bengaluru: Woman dies after being denied admission by 12 hospitals over bed shortage

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SHP)

Bengaluru, Jul 5: With the rise in coronavirus cases, hospitals have been finding it difficult to accommodate patients. This turned fatal for a 50-year-old woman who was seeking admission into a hospital after she began experiencing breathing issues. The shortage of beds prompted 12 hospitals to refuse admission to the woman who died shortly thereafter.

The husband of the deceased Babu said that the family had approached 12 hospitals in three days including Victoria Hospital and other private facilities. All of the hospitals claimed to have a shortage of beds and therefore unable to admit the woman.

However, even when the family did manage to get the woman admitted at KC General Hospital, she could not be saved. The 50-year-old woman passed away on Saturday in a few minutes of her admission, a report by Deccan Herald stated.

In a similar case of refusal from hospitals due to a shortage of beds, a 35-year-old man, Manjunath also passed away on Saturday. The deceased was reportedly suffering from fever for over three days.

When his condition worsened, the man's wife admitted him into a private hospital on Saturday, July 4 after hours of ordeal. Unfortunately, Manjunath could not make it and passed away 15 minutes after getting admitted.

The hospital authorities took swab samples from the deceased and stated that the body would be handed over only after the test results were received.

BBMP personnel also failed to shift the body of a COVID-19 patient in Kalasipalya almost a day after the death.

Despite civic workers disinfecting the place, the neighbours were gripped with fear after the body was kept at home.

Corporate hospitals are worst than extortionists! I have read lots of horror stories in Mumbai where parties were billed 15lacs for 15 days when they knew patient is almost dead; in another case one hospital extracted 88 thousand for 8 hours & then brought out dead body from a poor patient, over & above that they were demanding ambulance fees! Recently somewhere in North, a poor patient was beaten to death by hospital employees after he didn't succumb to their demands of extra charges! All these stories send a chill down the spine! Only rich can afford hospitals! Common man better for suddenly at home before falling prey to these monsters!
Unless the entire system is purged & cleant there seems to be no hope for the common man!

Ajay, I fully endorse your views! As the influenza virus continuously mutates, a vaccine will be useless; as by the time the vaccine becomes effective the virus will mutate making the vaccine ineffective!!

    People,

This COVID-19 cannot be controlled in any Country unless we have an effective Vaccine....

Hope we will be able to get one within months....if we have to break some 'Poochulinga' precedents and protocols ...So be it....a day late will cost us Lakh's of lives...

    Why some 'm*r*ns / 'Vighna Santoshi's ' oppose expedited Vaccine release ....I don't know...

Yessss...it used to take 10-15 years to get an approval for a Vaccination before....We cannot wait for that long now...if we do perhaps most of the world population will be wiped out....

I have no personal axe to grind here people...other than well being of humanity....

    ...Tak...Takk...

Please go through Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, s opinion on vaccine trials, she speaks from knowledge and is in a responsible position in WHO, else a hurried vaccine may have disastrous consequences and make people scared of any vaccine.,if it was harmless a premature experiment would have been alright, unfortunately it's not safe to do that.

By the by , why she was rubbing her eyes while interview multiple times ???...

US Companies does not need WHO or UN permission to release Vaccination for COVID-19...they need to get US FDA / United States Food and Drug Administration approval...which I am hopeful of getting before Hat's birthday 3rd November ( 2020)....

By the by do you know what Trump said about Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, s boss Tedros Adhanom ..." Corrupt and inefficient head of a Corrupt and inefficient organization-Which licks Chinese boots'....and came out of this Good for nothing organization...

Any questions about WHO, Soumya Swaminathan and Tedros Adhanom Sir???...

Langooji,You are mistaken.every new vaccine or medicine to be put on market ,first time ,they have to prove on animals ,then chosen people to be sure. They have to give a complete report ,and should be varified by group of committee members who are experts then only will be accepted after patent ,on the market.Trump is talking many things ,without knowing it.

    Ajay,

What do you know about Vaccine ? The so called Vaccine for Corona Virus is still in the process of
making. Yo make you known and all the rest, a number of manufcturers including most leading pharmaceutical companies are
working very hard in the United States some of which are thru stage 1, stage 2 or 3,
and more to go; they are in the testing stage on humans, further must get it tested and
approved by FDA Authorities to bring them into the market for use for Corona Virus. Though the
process time is couple of years, US Govt is pushing hard and speeding up the process. Let us wait for
another 5-6 months, then we can say, here we go, here is the Vaccine. With that, all are relieved.
If you happen to get Virus once vaccine is out, it is your choice you want to take it or not. But, do not,
please do not mislead the general public. God Bless you.

Due to bad leadership the entire world is suffering. In India during this situation great leaders like Indira Gandhi, Manmohan Sigh, Vajipayee should be there to manage everything amicably. Now, we the common people confused and failing to choose which direction need to move. Because our own brain stopped working and we are following everyone's advises. If someone say drink hot water we drink it and if another says drink cold water we follow it. Finally we, the common people are who suffers from every directions. Which minister is suffering the way common people suffer and which minister is coming to help us individually to resolve personal and financial issues. Believe in God should be personal it should not effect public life. we are electing them by the name of God/religion and by the way which God needs your help?

Hospitals should have data showing in which hospital now the bed is available ? Someone from Govt or hospital employee should confirm and Guide the patient to go that particular  hospital ? Why does the patient have to run 8 hospitals before he dies?

If Govt. Cannot take responsibility and money which was granted by the center is not yet reached states then do not fool the public through Man ki baath & bogus advertisement

The biggest problem with this disease is not an infection but treatment for the severe cases. As the spread progresses even private hospitals will not be able to provide ICU & ventilators as they have limited capabilities. Apart from this most of the private hospitals may not have been ready to accept COVID patients. Even if facilities are available it will strain the patient's finances.

I read today that a patient in Hyderabad was charged Rs 4lac for 15 days but insurance covered the only 1.5lac. The patient is not discharged due to non-payment

Prevention is better than getting infected as the government has lost its track and started at looking at economic recovery than patients recovery

    Stay safe .

So many cases happened recently but only warnings are issued, no action taken; just making fools of innocent public!
If you can pay in lacs, they will give you royal entry!
Why some officials cannot go inside these rogue hospitals & check physically for beds & take instant action!

It's actually not the bed shortage in hospitals in the the literal sense. It's the ventilator shortage. Mild cases don't occupy ventilators. With the sudden surge in cases, ventilator beds are all occupied in bangalore, not only by covid patients also by other patients
