Bengaluru, Jul 1: Expressing serious concern over the sharp spike in the COVID-19 infection cases in Bengaluru and rest of Karnataka, a team of medical experts and government officers consulted by chief minister B S Yediyurappa for the effective management in the state have advised the state government that asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic patients may be treated at home as it would 'be more appropriate and lessen the burden on hospitals.'
The CM had convened the meeting of medical experts in Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru on Wednesday to suggest the adoption of guidelines and strategy to be implemented for treatment and COVID management in the state.
Most of the experts opined that treating asymptomatic and mildly symptomatic patients in home isolation was better and advised the state government to focus on treating people with serious conditions and comorbid patients.
The medical experts stressed the need for taking effective steps to reduce the doubling period and strict enforcement of precautionary measures in closed places, close contact and crowded areas.
They also suggested to use the telemedicine system to treat asymptomatic patients and wanted the staff strength at field level must be enhanced for contact tracing.
Effective usage of Tele ICU and regular online training about treatment protocols are necessary, the medical experts suggested.
They asked for uninterrupted oxygen supply chain and new drugs supply chain for effective treatment of COVID patients and emphasized the need to prevent 'fearful atmosphere and social stigma attached to this pandemic' and wanted the government to take the people into confidence to control the spread of the pandemic.
The chief minister promised that the opinion of the medical experts would be discussed in detail and necessary steps would be taken.
Medical education minister Dr K Sudhakar, health and family welfare minister B Sriramulu, home minister Basavaraj Bommai, chief secretary T M Vijaya Bhaskar and other senior officials attended the meeting.
