Media Release

Mangaluru, Jul 1: The world of pharmaceutical sciences is quite exciting and a career in the pharmaceutical sciences is more than just a job. Pharmacists today are playing an increasingly important role in the health care team, adding powerful influence to the quality of patient outcomes.

Indian pharmaceutical sector:

India contributes the second-largest share of pharmaceutical and biotech workforce in the world. This is an exciting time for pharmacy education. With a greater number of the ageing population across the globe and growing advances in medicine creating more pharmaceutical advances in medicine and pharmaceutical products, a critical shortage is felt globally in one area and that is health care delivery. Hence, the demand for qualified pharmacists and pharmaceutical services is expanding dramatically in community pharmacy, health-system pharmacy, managed health care, and the pharmaceutical industry.

Employment opportunities:

A vast and rewarding array of opportunities within the ever-evolving field of pharmacy awaits for aspiring students. Contrary to popular perception, a career in pharmacy is not only challenging but lucrative too. Pharmaceutical industries employ pharmacy graduates and postgraduates for various activities that include manufacturing/production, quality control, quality assurance, regulatory affairs and IPR, research and development, clinical research, clinical data management, bioinformatics, medical transcriptions, and distribution (sales and marketing), and veterinary pharmacists. Pharma being knowledge-based industry; special skills are required for all these operations or activities. The above career opportunities belong to the traditional spheres of employment in the pharmaceutical sectors. The pharmaceutical industries have changed over the years. The new field of activities like clinical trials, contract research, new drug development, newer drug delivery systems etc have emerged. The corresponding demands for higher qualifications like postgraduates in pharmacy in different disciplines and doctorate degree have increased.

Today pharmaceutical companies need professionals with high expertise who can face the global challenge. Hence, no longer is BPharm/MPharm qualification looked at as the fallback option for MBBS or BTech aspirant rejects; instead one can witness a breed of young ambitious minds that wishes to reach newer heights in the field of pharmaceutical sciences - The Lifeline of the global healthcare system.
