Byndoor: One more SSLC student tests positive for coronavirus

Byndoor, Jul 1: Reports said that a SSLC student from Uppunda near here was confirmed to have been infected with coronavirus on Tuesday June 30 evening. She happens to be the third SSLC student from Udupi district to be suffering from this disease.

The student in question had appeared for two examinations at the SSLC examination centre at Byndoor till Saturday. On Saturday evening, she suffered from acute backache. As she had also an examination on Monday, the principal was informed. On Monday, the girl student failed to appear for the examination. Her throat swab sample was sent on Monday for testing and the report received on Tuesday evening confirmed the worst fears.

How the student contracted coronavirus has remained a mystery till now. It is said that people from Maharashtra were in her neighbourhood a few days ago.

This was stated by deputy director of public instruction, Sheshashayana Karinja.

    There is no point in blaming Govt for spread. Impose lock-down people violate, cry that economy is going bad,no jobs etc. Remove the lock-down people hardly wear mask follow social distancing. Its our indiscipline causing the spread.

    The govt had the power to cancel sslc exam. It's not the people's fault. When cbse, and all other states have canceled exams what was the need?

    Govt. did not compel anyone to undertake exams. Parents and students can skip exams by giving trivial reasons too.

    Mental Health Matters. Exams are actually based on Mental Health.
    A student cannot perform well with poor mental health. Why do people commit suicide, mostly because of poor mental health and a lot of mental pressure. Governemt should put mental health on priority especially for exams. Students can't study well with such anxiety and worry. When a lot of news is negative ex (deaths, positive cases in localities etc), it becomes difficult to study and concentrate. Some students may be living in containment zones or may know or have contact with infected. It really puts a lot of mental pressure on them. Recently, a student in assam commited suicide due to exam pressure/uncertainities. Teenagers arw more vulnerable doing such things. They can't handle mental pressure easily. Look at the social media accoumts of education ministers and see the comments below. A lot pf students are anxious and worried
    A recent study showed that there was a 166% rise in anxieties due to this pandemic.
    In my opinion, the goverment should and hopefully will help students score well in their exams since the exams are already underway and are not likely to be postponed. That will reduce exam related worries amd it will help students.
    These issues should not be politicized. It will ultimately affect students.
    Mental Health Matters. I hope the government (and future govts) will
    take this into consideration.

    They talk about mental awareness but commit actions that have a negative toll on the mental health of the children. More like they have made a joke out of it.

    Can you hear yourself speak, sir? They could hold the exams any other time. What if someone in their home has some condition? We don't know if this virus has future health implications. Mental health is important. But, without physical health, everything is useless. All the petty politicians are worried about political fallout rather than our lives. All is lost.

    I understand what you are saying. SC and HC have rejected the petition. So nothing much can be done. They could have postponed it but they did not. Mental health problems are silent killers compared to physical problems. It is easier to hold someone accountable for physical damages. More students are likely to mentally affected.
    I was saying that there is no point in holding exams if mental health is neglected or declines. What are they testing students upon then?
    I wasn't denying the fact that students might be physically effected.

    Where are those people who were saying everyone will be fine and there is nothing to worry about??
    The other students will be worried when they hear such news.
    Parents will also be worried.
    Why did the central government cancel the exams then?
    Why did other states cancel the exams?
    This is not a matter that should be politicized.
    They could have postponed the exams or find a win-win situation. It would have been better if they had conducted the exams when cases were few.
    Anyway, nothing much can be done since HC and SC have rejected the petition and exams are already underway.
    I hope and pray that such incidents don't happen in the future.

    Useless and egoistic persons are given portfolios. Falling on the minister's feet was the only left to cancel SSLC exams - no pleading helped.

    No ! The exams will go on ! Why ? Is it he getting certified ?

    Now see the route of infection !

    Yes. And it's not like sslc is an entrance exam which is needed to choose pu collages. Nor is it a competitive exam. Just a birth certificate which is not worth the lives of students, teachers and parents in this situation.
