Tumakuru, Jun 30: The district administration here was following the practice of subjecting people suspected to be suffering from coronavirus infection and those who came from other states to quarantine. The district administration has now decided to prescribe quarantine also for the sheep.
Forty sheep have been confined to one place in Godekere village in Chikkanayakanahalli taluk of the district, and these sheep are now not being released to graze. Because a shepherd from Godekere has contracted coronavirus. Therefore, the 40 sheep which were under his care have been quarantined.

District in-charge minister J C Madhuswamy, said here that the throat swab samples of the sheep have been collected and sent to a laboratory at Bhopal for testing. The minister said that whether the sheep get infected by coronavirus is not known, duly adding that the sheep will be kept at a place till the reports are received.
Madhuswamy said that he is confident that normally coronavirus infection does not spread through the sheep, but this decision was taken as a measure of abundant precaution. He said that a decision on whether the sheep can be allowed to graze with the flock will be taken after the reports on the swab samples are received.
