Mangaluru, Jun 26: After a pack of street dogs attacked barking deer at Pilikula Nisargadhama, over 15 of them lost their lives. Tens of barking deer are fighting for their lives. The incident happened on the night of Thursday June 25.
Animal activists have expressed anguish at the total negligence shown by the district administration and the forest department.
It is learnt that the dogs attacked the barking deer and bit them at will. Many of them died and several others are on the verge of losing their lives, sources said.
Pilikula Nisargadhama is the only one in Dakshina Kannada district where animals are provided with food and protection. The people are questioning who is responsible for not ensuring protection to the animals kept in confinement. There is also a demand for registration of murder case against the guilty officials.
