Mangaluru: Street dogs attack barking deer, over 15 killed, many seriously injured

Mangaluru, Jun 26: After a pack of street dogs attacked barking deer at Pilikula Nisargadhama, over 15 of them lost their lives. Tens of barking deer are fighting for their lives. The incident happened on the night of Thursday June 25.

Animal activists have expressed anguish at the total negligence shown by the district administration and the forest department.

It is learnt that the dogs attacked the barking deer and bit them at will. Many of them died and several others are on the verge of losing their lives, sources said.

Pilikula Nisargadhama is the only one in Dakshina Kannada district where animals are provided with food and protection. The people are questioning who is responsible for not ensuring protection to the animals kept in confinement. There is also a demand for registration of murder case against the guilty officials.

    Pilikula zoo is comparatively a young zoo when compared to other big zoos of Karnataka. I am a frequent visitor of the zoo for the past few years. Being a nature enthusiast, I have great admiration for the zoo for how they keep the animals in spacious and naturalistic environments. As per my knowledge, it functions with donations and funds from various organizations and conservationists without having any government aids for its maintenance. I have seen the zoo develop from scraps to the position in which it is today through the hard work of all those who work there. I could see this incident only as a mishap that is very unfortunate. Of course there should be rectifications made so that this doesn’t happen in the future. But blaming and tarnishing the entire zoo for this is not fair as I have observed all the breeding activities and good works that happen there for nature conservation.

    The  mathematics and logic behind the stray dog menace in India  can be summarize as following:

    If,  Zero stray dogs in Indian Streets = Zero Stray Dog Bites = Zero sale of Anti-Rabies Vaccines.
    This is the  necessary ideal situation for the  safety of human beings.
    But at the same time, the Anti-Rabies Vaccine mafia wants:
    Maximum number   of stray dogs in Indian Streets = Maximum number of  Stray Dog Bites =  Maximum  sale of Anti-Rabies Vaccines.

    All these happened under the leadership of Maneka Gandhi, the  Pseudo  Animal Right Activist. She is the most Devilish and Disastrous lady that the world ever seen. She created a "Synthetic market" for  Anti-Rabies Vaccines. She doesn't have a Human and Humane Heart. She is responsible for the death of more than 6 Lakhs people, across  India during the last 20 years, by way of stray dog attacks, stray dog lead accidents and Rabies.

      There are some false propaganda as follows:
    "The reason for the increased street dog menace is due to the following reasons
    (1) Indiscriminate disposal of waste, particularly food waste by people
    (2) Increase in the number of chicken / mutton stalls leading to higher poultry waste reason for the increased street dog menace"
    The truth is that, stray  are not coming from these 2.  These are  just non-practical justifications. These are the justifications of Anti-Rabies Vaccine Mafia.  It is same like  prescribing Paracetamol to Diarrhea. While promoting the false propaganda as above, there will not be any solutions for the issue, so that the stray dogs will be maintained on the streets, as "Silent Volunteers" of the Anti-Rabies Vaccine Mafia.
    The total number of Animals slaughtering in India, on a normal day, is more than the total number of stray dogs in India.
    The present stray dog population in India = 3.5 Crores.
    The total number of Animals slaughtering in India per day= 8 to 10 Crores.
    Ideal solution is Kill all stray dogs, within a short span of time or put all them in Shelters.

    Culling of dogs is a business by itself in many countries (Taiwan, China, Cambodia, South Korea, Thailand etc.) though not prevalent in India. Dog meat is a delicacy among Burman community in states of Mizoram, Nagaland, Manipur.

    If vaccine mafia is funding, raise a voice against that and expose those companies rather than killing dogs. Also raise voice against dog breeders who illegally import dogs and bred forcibly under pathetic conditions which functions like a factory, and once the dog is weak to reproduce they are dumped on the streets. The same is true of pet lovers who can’t (affordability) or who do not want to (pseudo pet lovers) spay the female puppies and abandon them. We have to address these issues and culling of dogs in not the solution. Dogs play a important part in the urban cycle of nature too.

    According to your hypothesis, every animal lover is part of Vaccine mafia, but then I do not want to name those advocating dog culling as “International Dog Meat Mafia”, because as per studies 'Dog Haters' could be Sadists, people with Criminal mindset or those genuinely feel threatened and would like to treat you as genuinely threatened / affected.

    The reason for the increased street dog menace is due to the following reasons

    (3) Extinction of Vultures in India. (In our country, for religious reasons, we don’t kill older dying cattle and give them banned medicine Diclofenac to alleviate their pain conditions. Ultimately when these cattle die, Vultures which ate the remains of the drugged cattle became victims and thus have become extinct. Extinction of vultures increased the availability of carcasses of dead fowls, cattle etc which is a easy source of food for street dogs.)

    The more deep you delve in the matter; you will ultimately find that the root cause of the street dog menace is human beings. So let us correct ourselves and have a humane approach towards these voiceless. If possible, please adopt or at least volunteer for their vaccination / spaying / rehabilitation. Killing is no solution as this world belongs to every living being.

    No doubt, the unfortunate incident needs to be probed and steps taken to prevent recurrence, but killing dogs are not the solution to this problem. Why Maneka Gandhi; who is the voice for the voiceless, became voiceless. May be busy probing the religious statistics of Pilikula area, as she became a laughing stock last time for the lack of knowledge about the place of incident in the elephant death case in Kerala.

    Catch these dogs and put them in lion's cage. These dogs sometimes prove to be dangerous to kids. Heart bleeds if you watch in youtube and other social media how they attack innocent kids and bite them to death.

    dangerous to the lives of tourists who visit Pilikula. The street dogs should have been caught and handed over to MCC authorities.

    All the govt authorities to be scrapped and outsourced to the PRIVATE COMPANY so that they can do the job efficiently with accountability. This is like they call for a committee for the investigation report, the committee will find nothing after spending almost 4 decades!! BODA SHEERA !! Whoever coming under the above responsibility should be fined heavily and jailed for 10 years.

    So what happened that led to this savage attack by street dogs in such a secure confinement ?
    The answer to this is quite out of the ordinary. Not once has this kind of an incident occurred in the past then why suddenly?

    Are area holding the Pilikula project is a few hundred acres with a few Kms of compound enclosing the Zoo area. Though the compound is well secured , due to the recent rains a short tree fallen had provided a ramp like access to the back of the zoo , in a secluded area invisible to security personnel due to it being the exterior or the wall. A pack of dogs entered the zoo via this tree ramp and since Pilikula zoo is the only zoo of its kind where most animals are not kept in cage like confinements but in open organic spaces it was easy for the dogs to just jump in attack the poor creatures. Barking deers are timid animals and are fearful of any intruders. The dogs managed to attack 4 deers and the rest went into shock & heart failure due to fear, which is common with these kinds of barking deers.
    News is that a detailed inquiry is being held and the lapses will be found out.
    The pilikula administration has run a beautiful place with such care and devotion towards animals that the tigers and lions and all other animals which rarely breed in captivity have flourished.
    The other option would be to keep these animals in tight secure cages where they live and die in suffering , which isnt the case at pilikula.
    so people of mangalore before you bring out your knifes and look to draw blood, think what pilikula has done so far and understand that lapses need to be corrected and fixed in organizations , being supportive to the people who have given their lifetimes to keeping animals happy deserve a break. so people please stop judging, because pilikula has lost some beautiful animals today which they regret more than others and pilikula has saved and rescued and rehabilitated thousands of animals till date, anyone keeping count of that?

    There is team of member from Animal Welfare Board from Karnataka has visited slaughterhouse at Kudroli here on Thursday June 25. But they have not payed the attention of this incident. When pregnant Elephant died the BJP government has given political color.

    Now not one fifteen of them killed by street dogs in India we respect as 'Avatar' of God. If these dogs can kill deer today tomorrow our children's walking on the street may difficult. There are many children's are bitten and killed by these dogs in various city of India.

    Will our Animal rights group stop the symbolic political motivated visit to slaughterhouses and find the solution for this street menace and protect our wild life with devotion?

    Last time when a elephant was killed by a cracker wrappes in pineapple, there were plothera of outrage statements from her.
    He also communalised the issue happend in kerala.

    This comment is absolute right, killing for killing not the solution, accidents happens sometimes. I am really sorry to deers,and those dogs also innocent , but where is the protection and security .This mistake wasn't of the dogs only of security.
    Some people said dog may attack the children in streets, of course but why you leave the child alone, may be your child attacked by fire,or accident or kidnap or any other incident, in this case also mistake is ours.never punish the innocent animals.

    This is very serious issue . I demand that the official who is heading the zoo has to be dismissed from service for this negligence with blacklist. Dont just suspend watchman or lowest worker. My opinion is this zoo has to be closed down as there is no point in bringing wild animals and getting them killed . Hope the concerned ministers takes note.

    Anil kumar mangalore ,before that first findout who was responsible at that time at Pilikula,and why noone saw or hear the barking of Deers and stray dogs .Was everyone went home ?noone was on duty?They should have removed the tree as it fell ,since one knows how easy stray dogs or could climb up and enter the Pilikula.Carelessness on the whole .
