Mangaluru, Jun 25: The number of infected persons in Ullal has been rising every day. A woman, a resident of Ullal Kodi, tested positive on Thursday June 25. Three women and a PSI have tested positive in the last four days. Unfortunately, one of the women passed away due to the deadly infection.
The woman who tested positive on Thursday, had got herself admitted in the hospital after she experienced chest pain. However, the infection was confirmed with lab tests. Following this, an Azad Nagar resident tested positive on June 22, then on June 23, another woman in the vicinity contracted the infection. A police sub-inspector (PSI) also tested positive on June 24. But, the woman from Azad Nagar succumbed to the virus. As infection was confirmed in Ullal Kodi resident on the fourth day, there is a fear that the virus could spread across Ullal.
As soon as the test result of the PSI came back positive, Ullal police station was sealed. For the time being, the police station has been shifted in a nearby building, but there is a ban on the entry of visitors. Every staff of the police station has taken up voluntary quarantine. Meanwhile, six members of the staff who were in close proximity to PSI were quarantined in a hospital. Their lab test reports are likely to arrive on Friday.
As a precautionary measure, four houses in Ullal Azad Nagar are sealed down and 26 people are under quarantine. The house in Ullal Kodi will also be sealed down on Friday, said Ullal municipal council officer.
Municipal council president Rayappa has requested people to come out only if absolutely necessary and urged them to wear masks and to maintain social distance.
"The mosque will not be opened for Namaz on Friday, perform Namaz at home," requested MLA U T Khader.
