JAC Asks All Telangana Legislators to Quit

Hyderabad, Feb 14 (IANS) The all-party Joint Action Committee (JAC) Saturday night unanimously asked all legislators from the Telangana region to quit to protest the terms of reference of the Srikrishna committee that will study the demand for a seperate state.

After a marathon meeting of the JAC, its convenor M. Kodandaram told reporters that the process of submitting resignations would start Sunday.

He said the legislators would start from JAC office at 11 a.m. and reach assembly to submit their resignations to the speaker.

Leaders of ruling Congress party, main opposition TDP, TRS and BJP attended the meeting.

The decision for mass resignations was taken minutes after six legislators of Congress party announced that they would submit their resignations Monday.

Kodandaram, however, did not say how many legislators would quit. To a query, he said JAC would later decide as to what should it do with those who refuse to resign.

TRS has already announced that all 11 legislators of the party would submit their resignations on Sunday.

Kodandaram said the terms of reference were unacceptable to people of Telangana as they were not favourable for formation of Telangana state.

There are 119 members from Telangana in 294-member Andhra Pradesh assembly.

Congress has 50 legislators from Telangana while TDP has 39.
