Mangaluru/Udupi, Jun 17: Eight new cases of novel coronavirus were reported in Dakshina Kannada, while four new cases were reported in Udupi on Wednesday June 17.
In Dakshina Kannada, a total of 44,999 people have been screened so far, including 313 on Wednesday.
As per the district health bulletin, a total of 11,216 samples have been sent for tests so far, out of which 10,711 have tested negative, and 386 positive, including 10 persons from other districts. Out of these, 208 are currently active. As many as 170 persons have recovered and been discharged, and eight deaths have occurred so far.
One patient, a 60-year-old, was discharged from Wenlock on Wednesday.
Two male patients aged 52 and 70, who are serious, are being treated in the ICU.
As many as 147 samples were sent for testing on Wednesday. Reports of 80 samples were received on Wednesday, out of which eight tested positive and the rest negative. Reports of 119 samples are awaited.
Among the eight corona-positive patients, there are five males and three females including one child. Two are Saudi returnees, one has travelled from Maharashtra and five have contracted infection from other positive tested patients.
The child has contracted infection from P-6284, a 52-year-old man who returned from Mumbai on June 9 and tested positive on June 12. Three patients have contracted infection from P-6282, a 70-year-old man, who returned from Bengaluru on June 7 and tested positive on June 12. Another patient contracted infection from P-5765, a 46-year-old male patient, who returned from Pune on May 13 and tested positive on June 9.
As many as 11 persons have been admitted for observation.
A total of 5,895 people have been treated at fever clinics so far. On Wednesday, 28 cases of severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) were reported. As many as 59 people have been screened in mobile fever clinics.
Udupi
As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 4,808 people have completed 28 days of quarantine, including eight on Wednesday, and a total of 4,858 have completed 14 days of quarantine including two on Wednesday. As many as 655 persons are currently in home quarantine.
A total of 71 people are in isolation wards, including five fresh admissions on Wednesday. Among them, two have SARI and three influenza-like illness.
As many as 878 people, including 13 on Wednesday, have been discharged from isolation wards so far.
A total of 13,033 samples have been collected so far, including 34 on Wednesday, out of which four are COVID contacts. Out of them, 11,876 samples have turned out to be negative, including 14 on Wednesday, and 118 reports are awaited. As many as 1,039 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, with only 130 cases being currently active. As many as 908 patients including 23 on Wednesday who recovered have been discharged from hospital. One death has occurred in the district. One positive case has been transferred to Dakshina Kannada.
Among the four persons tested positive on Wednesday, three are males and one female. Three of them are Maharashtra returnees and one person is a 22-year-old female who has contracted infection from P-5451, a lab technician who tested positive earlier.
