Mangaluru, Jun 13: The monsoon has gained momentum in coastal districts of Karnataka. The region has been experiencing heavy rainfall, and a person lost his life near Gurpur after a compound wall collapsed on him.
The meteorological department has sounded orange alert on June 14 and yellow alert from June 15 to 17. Compared to other districts, Uttara Kannada district has been recording heavier rains with Honnavar recording nine cm rainfall followed by Karwar and Gokarna with eight cm each.
Fallen trees created roadblocks at Bajal and Attavar. A tree got uprooted on a house at Tantry Lane in Kottara Chowki. Another tree fell on a house near Rani Abbakka Park near the estuary at Bengare.
The National Disaster Response Force team is already in the seat to handle challenging circumstances. Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, has asked the officials to remove trees which might get stuck at the vented dams and to keep an eye on road blocks on the highways that might be caused by fallen trees, landslides etc and see that the same are cleared without delay.
Heavy rain coupled with thunder and strong wind is predicted in most parts of the state till Sunday morning.
