Panaji, Jun 12: Goa Congress on Thursday urged chief minister Pramod Sawant to place Mormugao taluk under lockdown and increase the testing rate for the COVID-19.

The Opposition blamed the CM and the urban development minister Milind Naik, for toying with lives of Goans while trying to protect the business interests at Mormugao Port Trust (MPT). “We demand immediate lockdown for five to eight days in the entire Mormugao," Congress vice-president, Sankalp Amonkar said.

Congress pointed out that Naik has a monopoly on onshore services provided to vessels and BJP is against halting the activities in Vasco. The party also claimed that three of the four BJP MLAs of Mormugao have called for lockdown with even the local municipality officials urging Sawant to impose a lockdown.

“The government has failed to control the spread of this virus. We want to know why the government is not serious about this?" Amonkar demanded.
