Several areas in Kundapur sealed down after woman tests corona-positive

Kundapur, May 30: A woman, who arrived 15 days ago from Mumbai to Barikere, under Kotatattu gram panchayat limits, to her residence, tested positive for coronavirus in the result that arrived on Friday, May 29. She is admitted to the Covid hospital in Udupi.

A team consisting Brahmavar tahsildar Kiran Gowraiah, RI Raju, village accountant Cheluvaraju, police station officer Rajshekhar Vandali, medical officer of community health center Dr Vishwanath, Dr Naveen and Asha workers visited the residence of the woman and sealed down ten houses around the house of the infected woman. The tahsildar has warned all the people living in the ten houses not to venture out. Kotatattu gram panchayat development officer is given instructions to supply grocery and essential to the members of ten houses.

The woman who tested positive had given her throat swab sample 14 days ago, when she arrived from Mumbai and was kept in government quarantine center at Hattiangadi. As her test result did not arrive even after 14 days, she was sent home. So she had arrived to her residence in the evening on Thursday but was taken to Covid hospital in Udupi on Friday. One of her sons is kept in isolation ward.

In addition to the area where the woman tested positive, various parts of the taluk like Kodi, Basrur, Neralakatte and Halnadu are sealed. This is done for people who were confirmed to have tested positive for Covid-19 on the next day of going home as per government orders before the test results arrived. A 200-meter area around the house of the infected person is sealed down in all cases.

Kodi, Basrur, Neralakatte and Halnadu under Kundapur rural police station limits are sealed down. Marvi of Vandaru village under Amasebailu police station limits and Barikere under Kota police station limits is also sealed down.

In all the cases, the infected people had returned to their homes on May 28 as per government orders before the test results arrived. Now as they have tested positive, the areas around their houses are sealed down.

    As the article states her swab was sent 14 days back has tested positive & now after 14 days they got the result, the woman in question has no symptoms, i.e., asymptomatic which means she won't be spreading infection around without sneezing or coughing.
    If this situation is posed then certainly no use sending her to hospital as it is only waste of money & precious bed which can be given to the most needy patients.
    As Reader, India correctly pointed no need to worry. The administration need to change its protocol with changing scenario to alleviate these problems like seal down etc.
    Certainly we are going overboard with proactive actions which themselves might not be right in this case.

    Asymptomatic which means she won't be spreading infection around without sneezing or coughing.

    Throat swab sample taken 14 days back. Lady sent back from quarantine. Results got after 14 days. Result positive. All nearby are is now quarantined. Who is responsible for this mess?
    This definitely proves administrative apathy. No value for life.

    What's happening? Test results not coming even after 14 days? Meanwhile the woman is sent home and she develops symptoms! As per this report, there are others who have been sent home and their test results indicate they are positive. So, what's the use of quarantine? Now they want to have seven days institutional quarantine for people coming from outstations. How will they ensure the test reports come in 7 days when they can't get them in 14 days? For all the noise the DC and collectors make, this is the pathetic state of affairs!

    There is nothing to worry.

    Since the throat swab was sent 14 days ago and the woman showed no symptoms which is why she was sent home, the immune system must have destroyed the virus already. I am sure the second test will come negative.

    For such cases, always have an instant test kit handy and speed up their test results for the second test.

    There are many things to worry..
    If test sample becomes old, can you still get an accurate result?

    Home quarantine is good if you quarantine all the inmates of the house or move healthy inmates of the house temporarily to some other safe locations.. depending on financial status

    As I said there is nothing to worry.

    If you are worried without knowing the science of how viruses behave and how viral loads affect the nature of respiratory diseases, infections and their outcomes, I suggest you read science journals and then get back to my comment.

    I however stand corrected if the woman showed symptoms once sent back which is not mentioned anywhere in this article nor her age. But I am pretty confident she was without symptoms and hence sent back home.

    I am not sure of other testing positive in similar ways. It may be a guess by the poster above.

    To stop the virus, you had to seal the borders until other states tackled them. That was the only way but I see a lot of persons in our government are plain stupid. Can't help it. So this is what we have to deal with now. To save a few migrants, put the entire country and its vulnerable population at risk.

    Instead you could have spent a few billion dollars to just provide food to whoever was hungry and solved this crisis long back.

    First paragraph says, she tested positive on Friday 29th.
    Whether she has some symptoms or not .. not mentioned anywhere.

    You said immune system kills virus by 14 days.. not proved anywhere..
    If she tests negative soon, that will be great.

    I am very sure asymptotic person can spread virus by little cough and sneeze.. so authorities have seal down the area.. that is correct approach

    Look she was positive on May 14th. We can agree on that hence the sample tested positive.
    So the virus was in her body since May 14th and no way the virus can stay in our body without the immune system destroying it.
    In 14 days the virus would easily move into the lungs and wreck havoc there.
    If her immune hadn't destroyed it in 14 days she would have shown symptoms. Atleast a persistent cough which would give the administration enough clue as to not to send her back home.

    Hope I am making sense.
