Dubai, May 30: The first chartered flight from Dubai is all set to depart from Ras Al Khaimah Airport on June 1.
As many as 105 staff members of Fortune Group of Hotels would be flying on the chartered SpiceJet flight arranged by the hotel chairman and president of the Karnataka non-resident Indian forum (KNRI) Praveen Shetty.
The flight is scheduled to depart at 9:45 am carrying total of 180 passengers, consul general of India to Dubai, Vipul confirmed.
Government authorised private companies or community groups to operate chartered flights to fly back stranded Indians on May 26 following the coronavirus pandemic and the lockdown imposed which halted almost all international flights.
Vipul said that the flight from Dubai scheduled on June 1 is not the first flight from the UAE. He also said that IgG/IgM tests would be conducted for all passengers as it was being done for Vande Bharat flights.
Shetty said that the decision was taken as three out of seven hotels were completely non-functional after the pandemic. However, he said that none of the employees’ visas were cancelled and they are likely to be hired once the situation gets back to normal.
The staff members returning mostly hail from Mangaluru, Udupi, Kasargod and Kundapur.
