Udupi, May 20: Over 30 passengers from Udupi and Mangaluru who had started their journey to Karnataka from Maharashtra in a private bus have been stopped at the state's border. Their future is uncertain. They are currently staying inside their bus at Kagal, about 17 km away from Maharashtra border at Nippani.
These people were compelled to stay put in Mumbai, having been affected by the lockdown rule. It is said that a lady identified as Vijayalaxmi from Udupi had promised to arrange for ferrying them into Karnataka. Around 30 people from Karnataka had booked tickets in the said bus by paying a fare Rs 4,500 per head.
They had started their journey from Mumbai on May 18 evening. A pregnant lady whose scheduled date of delivery is approaching near, is one of the stranded passengers. The passengers have requested deputy commissioner and people's representatives to somehow permit them to enter Karnataka.
