Mangaluru: Teenager picking seashells drowns at Adyapady dam

Mangaluru, May 20: Malick (18), resident of Paddayi Padavu near Gurpur, drowned in the standing water of Adyapady dam built across River Falguni on Tuesday, May 19.

Bajpe police have registered a case. The police personnel stated that the tragedy happened when Malick was busy picking seashells.

Malick and two others had visited the dam to catch seashells. Malick slipped and fell into a deep pit. As he did not know how to swim he drowned. The fire brigade personnel who came there later brought the body out with the help of locals.

Malick was the only son of Yousuf and Zohara, who live in a rented house at Paddayi Padavu near Gurpur. He is survived by parents and a sister. Malick happened to be the second person to have drowned in Falguni river in the last 10 days.
