Mangaluru: Two Dubai passengers create problems for fellow travellers

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, May 19: Two passengers who arrived in the city from Dubai after agreeing for the conditions stipulated, did not agree to the condition of being sent to institutional quarantine in the city upon their arrival here on Monday, May 18. This caused a lot of inconveniences and wait for other passengers. Both of them refused to be quarantined here and sought to travel to another destination.

One of them insisted on being allowed to travel to Maharashtra while the other wanted to be sent to Bengaluru. The district administration stayed firm but they brought pressure on the administration by making use of their high-level contacts.

Because of these two passengers, other passengers and officials were held up in the airport for about 45 minutes. At last, the man who wanted to go to Bengaluru was allowed to go there, while the passenger who wanted to go to Maharashtra was quarantined here in a hotel.

Normally, the entire process takes two hours since the arrival of the aircraft. But the two passengers caused a further delay of 45 minutes.

I think we should not jump to conclusions so quickly. I know my friend was travelling to Mangalore to go to Bangalore because of a medical emergency. and had fixed appointment s with doctors I am sure they presented all the papers required to justify their need to reach Bangalore. We cannot have blanket rules for all.

Officials should be able to identify genuine cases and proceed accordingly. No one in the right frame of mind would choose to travel at this time, unless there is an emergency. These 2 passengers could have been taken aside and the rest could have been taken to quarantine centers without delay.. Officers could have checked the means of transportation to Bangalore and informed Bangalore authorities about this case. All it required is a little bit of coordination.

Don't blame them directly without knowing fact.. Even one of my friend who lost job got call for mangalore flight.. She's staying near Bangalore...and her husband was not allowed to travel.. She told she want Bangalore flight.. She even thought that they will allow her to quarantine in native place... They didn't mention that she has to choose mangalore to quarantine for 14 days.. Thank God she didn't go.. Otherwise 14+14 days quarantine would have cost her so much.. Try to understand the situation.. Don't talk nonsense.. People here suffering like anything.. And for medical emergencies of course one choose to get treated in native as they have family support.. We too have equal right as you..you are no one to stop us.. We are coming to our house not yours.. Mind before you speak.. Stop being inhuman

It's truly a shame that the so called educated class is using their high level muscles to put the locals in danger. So they have come all the way here to trouble us? These are inhuman and unpatriotic people who should be imprisoned rather than quarantined. A humble request to the frontline officials in Mangalore... Please DO NOT slacken your efforts. Be very firm!!! You have done very well so far... Do not let some irresponsible citizens put all your efforts down the drain.

Who will be responsible if the person who travelled to Bangalore spreads virus? Do these "high level contacts" not have any common sense?

If the district admin succumbed to their pressure and antics then it's a shame and their incompetence. Should have taken him to Bajpe Station lockup instead direct from airport after screening.

    Unfair to the majority...
Those using high level contacts should have been made to wait rather than making the other lot wait for the resolution to come forth.

Here mangaloreans are struggling to get one ticket. Embassy confirmed booking for my 6 and 12 years old kids. But for me they refused to confirm booking. So I was forced to withdraw my kids booking.
