Bagalkot, May 10: Coronavirus infection is spreading fast throughout the country. People who had travelled to Ajmer from the districts of Belagavi, Davanagere and Bagalkot have been infected with the virus.
There are all signs of a Gujarat-like situation taking place in Bagalkot. It is said that the inter-state movement of people is the main source of infection. The district administration has requested the state health department not to add the eight people who had acquired the coronavirus infection from Ajmer to the list of infected people of the district.
The district administration says, "We do not have any information with regards to the eight people who had travelled to Ajmer in Gujarat from Bagalkot. So do not add these people to the list of corona-infected people of the district. We already have 51 corona-infected people. If these eight are added the number will hike to 59."
"According to COVID-19 protocol only if the infected person had stayed in the said district for a minimum of 14 days before infection then he or she is added to the list of infected people of the district. However, the eight people who had gone to Ajmer had not come to Bagalkot district for the last 14 days. So according to rules they cannot be added to the list of infected people of our district. So do not add them to the list of our district," argued DC of Bagalkot with the state health department officials.
Over 53 coronavirus positive cases have been reported in the state in one day on Sunday, May 10, which has sent shock waves throughout the state. Shivamogga, which was in the green zone and which did not report a single case of infection now has eight coronavirus infected people suddenly. This has become a new issue for the state government.
With the 53 infections reported on Sunday in the state, the total number of infected people for COVID-19 has risen to 847. Out of the new cases reported, three are from Bengaluru, one is from Davanagere, Bhatkal reported seven, Chintamani had one case, Kalaburagi three, Shivamogga eight, Bagalkot eight and Belagavi 22.
Now, it is to be observed whether the state government will reconsider the relaxation of lockdown in the state given the rise in cases.
