Moodbidri, May 7: In response to a complaint that the staff of the community health centre here had shown neglect towards a woman from Iruvail who had got admitted into the centre for her delivery, local MLA Umanath Kotian, visited the health centre on Wednesday May 6 afternoon and took the medical officer and other staff to task. He also issued them a warning.
The woman had got admitted into the health centre on April 30. She said that she was not extended any medical help on time. When she suffered from acute labour pain in the early hours, she said she was asked to go to Mangaluru. "Before the ambulance came, I had given birth to baby. I was looked after and cared for by the staff engaged for janitor duties, not nurses or doctors," she had said.
The senior health officer at the centre said that the woman had been admitted into the centre on April 30 and that the gynaecologist and obstetrician at the centre had enquired about health and provided medical care. The nurses, noticing that the situation was serious during late night hours, had informed the doctors. She was advised to get admitted into Lady Goschen Hospital Mangaluru and an ambulance was ready. But at 4.30 am on May 1 the lady underwent normal delivery. We have provided all medical help and she is in good health,” the medical officer stated.
