Mangaluru, May 6: A woman farmer who took loan from bank for producing ash gourd crop is pleading for the sale of her produce.
Theresa D'Souza, a resident of Balkunje village of the taluk is the lady who is facing difficulty in selling her crop. She has grown around three tonnes of ash gourd in her farm. She and her family had worked hard to get this crop and also took loan from the bank.
Due to lockdown the family is not able to sell their produce. Ash gourd fetches a price of Rs 30 per kilo in the open market. But Theresa is ready to sell her produce at just Rs 10 per kg.
Farmers' association has also come to the rescue of the woman and has urged district in charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary to do the needful immediately. The farmer leaders have urged the district administration and government to take action and buy the ash gourd at a good price.
