Karkala, May 4: Wine shops were open for business in Belman from Monday, May 4. The liquor was not available for tipplers since the lockdown was enforced, and with the liquor stores now allowed to operate, people rushed to make purchases from the wine stores.

Liquor lovers could be seen standing in lines at Belman, Mundkoor, Sacharipete and Inna neglecting the scorching heat of the sun and protecting themselves with a towel or a plastic bag over their heads. Several people were seen standing in line much before the two wine shops at Belman were getting ready to open. People were also seen standing in the queue at Mundkoor and Sacharipate.

Liquor stock runs out at Inna:

The liquor at Inna MSIL shop got over within an hour after the shops opened. The people waiting had to proceed to Mundkoor and Belman for their purchases.

No complaints on waiting under the sweltering sun:

People who came to buy ration for two months at the ration shops were demanding shamianas, complaining that they do not have time to wait for OTP and thumb impressions. But the people waiting in front of wine shops did not utter a word even after waiting in the line for three to four hours. People who were waiting elsewhere for ration kits donated by local groups and donors were seen waiting in front of the wine stores as well.
