Udupi, Jan 1: In the eighth annual Tulu drama competition being held in the name of the late Kemtoor Doddanna Shetty, who was a veteran theatre personality, ‘Ajane’, presented by Sangama Kalavider, Manipal, has won the first prize. The plays were staged at Muddana Mantapa of MGM College and the competition was organized by Udupi Tulukoota in association with the Academy of General Education Manipal and MGM College.
‘Amar Baidyer’ by Sumanasa Kodavoor has been placed second, while ‘Police’, staged by Katpady Ranjana Kalavidaru has been chosen for the third prize.
Under individual categories, ‘Ajane’ director, Arun Manipal, has bagged the prize meant for best direction. Sangama Kalavider has bagged the prize meant for the best stage setting. Balakrishna Kodavoor, who donned the role of Chennaya in ‘Amar Baidyer’ has been adjudged the best actor, with the award for the best actress going to Sujata Shetty, who appeared as Vanita in ‘Ajane’. Various other awards have also been announced.
All the prizes will be given away at a prize distribution function to be held at 5.30 pm on January 10 at Muddana Mantapa, MGM College, informed Udupi Tulukoota president, Bhaskaranand Kumar, and convener of the Competition Committee, Santosh Shetty Hiriyadka, in a release.
