Riyadh, Dec 17: Seven Stars Mulky, Riyadh, won the ‘Bangabandu Sheikh Mujib-Ur-Rahman Trophy-2009’ after trouncing Mangalore Kings in the cricket tournament held recently.
The match was hosted by Saudi Ogers Cricket Club, Riyadh, in which 22 teams participated.
In the final playoff, Mangalore Kings opted to bat first after winning the toss. Seven Stars trampled the Kings though the going was tough initially.
They won the playoffs by six wickets in 12 overs. The Kings had to be satisfied with only 56 runs (all out) in the 9.5 overs they played. Zahid of the Kings scored 20 runs.
The Stars easily chased 56 runs with the loss of 4 wickets in 7.4 overs. Dawood took four wickets with Imtiyaz and Saleem taking 3 wickets each and Hyder with 1 wicket, respectively.
Saleem scored 20 runs with Shamshu Uchila and Sulaiman Kannangar scoring 12 each.
The concentrated endeavor of Seven Stars helped them triumph. Riyaz Sagar, vice-captain led the team in the absence of captain Riyaz Mulky. He expressed his gratefulness to all his team members in winning the trophy.
Salahuddin Ahmed Farook, Engineer Kazi, Abdul Wahab, Nuralam Sarar, Mohiuddin Helal, Seven Stars manager Shamshu Mulki, secretary Mansour Mulky, and Mangalore Kings manager/captain Yunus (Hyundai) were present on the occasion to witness the grand finale.
