Bengaluru: Coronavirus lockdown may go on for some more time

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Apr 18: As the coronavirus situation in the country is not showing signs of improvement, in general, it is felt that lockdown might not be lifted even on May 3. This analysis is being done on the basis of detailed suggestions and instructions issued by the union department of health over managing of lockdown.

The guidelines speak about lockdown, seal down and buffer zone. Restrictions can be lifted in a controlled zone only four weeks after the last negative coronavirus case is reported. The affectively means that a month's wait is a must for an area to be open for free movement after it breaks free from all kinds of coronavirus infection.

Experts believe that the pandemic continues to raise its ugly head in various areas because of the fact that the people in many areas are not serious in observing lockdown conditions. Many a time, restrictions and social distancing are being compromised. This has been giving rise to increased number of infected people, which means that lockdown clearance will automatically get postponed.

Buffer zones are areas located in a radius of five km around the controlled zones in case of cities and seven km in case of rural areas. Close watch has to be kept on buffer zones and social distancing needs to be strictly implemented here. First one km radius around the controlled zone is treated as intensive buffer zone where house to house visits need to be conducted to conduct tests on people.

In case seal down announcement is necessitated, the zones will have a single entry and exist point. Here, close watch is to be kept and social distancing is strictly implemented. People cannot venture out of houses for any reason. Even private vehicles are not allowed to move and the police should own entire responsibility of ensuring this, as per instructions. Only in emergency cases can the police issue passes, the rules say.

Me thinks, our government did not really have an analysed strategy. Out of panic and lack of clear strategy, first lockdown was announced. How many followed it, or was it required at that stage is left for debate. Then came the expert advice that it will peak around end April, so again lockdown, no strong data to back it up. Had they given some thought, the first lockdown should have been after letting people to reach safer zones and back it up with strong plans to test, zone in, quarantine or lock down. The early lockdown has made people restless. And, it is not that covid news was sudden. May be our government was lost in some other agenda and they had to press panic button. Even now, testing is not happening, we really don't know who and how many are carrying.

It is easy to comment by sitting in home. As you said everything /move by Govt is debatable. How you can prove first lick down was not necessary or made in a hurry. Govt will always be consulting experts before taking such hard step. Don't under estimate Govt.

These days we have seen change of rules & regulations every day.
The future is to seal the affected places of origin & around hospitals that treat those patients while relaxing & starting all economic activities within a city or district with no incidence of new infections after 15 days.
Gradually neighboring districts with same track records can be added to extend the travel & economic trade, finally the whole state can be sealed from outside but not within.
Some are still in the state of fear & panic created by some media which has hyped the real threat compared to present mortality rate of less than 1%.
Herd Immunity needs to be looked into rather than trying to insulate people from any virus for long time. It needs to be implemented by first ensuring the elderly & vulnerable people getting secured from the infections youngsters might bring in. If this happens then no future flare ups are possible & no need to vaccinate the community as well which saves lot of money for the government & health care sector without burdening them with uncontrolled infections overwhelming the system.

Coronavirus has not given any date and time to anybody as to when it will die. The lockdown should be in force till the virus is completely eradicated and for this every citizen in the world have to take part in this. STAY HOME and BE SAFE.

FYI, HIV is still not eradicated; no vaccine, no cure, but HIV phobia has been conquered which was most important! Now hardly anybody talks of dreaded HIV!!
Half of the people could die due to panic & shock of CORONA!

Mr. Shetty, I know what HIV & what CORONA is! DO YOU KNOW, IF LEFT ALONE HIV ENDS IN TUBERCULOSIS OR OTHER DEADLY CANCER LIKE KAPOSIS SARCOMA, ETC.; AND PRIMARILY TB AFFECTS THE LUNGS, AND CAN ATTACK ANY ORGAN OF THE BODY (EXTRA PULMONARY TB)! MDMR TB DOESN'T RESPOND TO ANY DRUGS AND ALMOST ALWAYS RESULTS IN DEATH! SO, PLEASE DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE HIV; FOR WHICH, THERE IS YET NO CURE OR VACCINE, BUT CORONA IS A SELF LIMITING DISEASE IN 80-85% OF PATIENTS!

1 or 2 metres won't actually do a thing. For an infectious cough. 6 metres is the safe distance. 8 metres if it is a sneeze. That isn't taking into account wind etc.

You are right , Depends on situation, Doctors & nurses have access to PPE while we are only limited to masks. To be extra careful inside ATM & supermarkets other day I saw a chilling animated simulation video released by researchers shows how a single cough from a infected person can stay suspended in air for few minutes before it gets dispersed to other aisle inside a supermarket, video is still on YouTube.

Private hospitals don't take admission for normal sickness they redirect patients to government hospitals which is centre for corona patients, testing & research. There may be a high risk of getting infected because we might not have extra safety equipment for protection.

in health care facilities we are provided with minimum PPE and only 1 wears it... Rest of us wear the same masks that you people wear... All of us are at risk... Nobody is safe...

Clinging to God and praying for protection is all that we can do wen we come in contact with patients...

From here on, "blanket lockdown" can only be borne by higher middle class, HNIs, black money holders, politicians, etc. It will herald the funeral of the common man who comprises of 75% of the population!
A very holistic & pragmatic decision needs to be taken now, lest direct & indirect fatalities, more than CORONA saga, flare up!

The above is a very PERSONAL opinion considering the overall situation objectively!
