Hassan, Apr 16: Police sub-inspector of Arehalli station in Belur taluk here, T R Balu, has been sent on leave by district superintendent of police, Srinivas Gowda.
A BJP worker, Tej Kumar Shetty, had shared a post containing opinion about Tablighi Jamaat on social website. Alleging that this is tantamount to racial abuse, sub-inspector of Arehalli, T R Balu, had registered a case against Shetty. Balu has now been sent on leave.
It may be recalled that tourism minister, C T Ravi, had openly expressed anger at the sub-inspector for registering case on a post on Tablighi in relation to coronavirus infection. Ravi had wondered what mistake the BJP worker had committed by sharing the post, in his tweet. Expressing the opinion that the sub-inspector had exceeded his brief, Ravi had requested home minister Basavaraj Bommai, to take action against Arehalli station house officer.
District in-charge miniser J C Maduswamy, explained that the sub-inspector has been sent on office duty (OOD). He said that there would not have been any fault on the part of the police officer if he had acted within the legal framework and registered case against the youth. He felt that such mistakes happen when one works with over enthusiasm.
