Udupi, Dec 14: All India Congress Committee general secretary and former minister, Oscar Fernandes, informed that the Congress Party has been making all out preparations to ensure that the founding day of the party is celebrated in every village of the country during the next one year. The party will be completing 128 years of its existence on December 28 this year.
Addressing a meeting of the district Congress Committee members and other party activists, organized at the Congress Bhavan in Brahmagiri here on Sunday December 13, Oscar reminded them that the declaration of ‘Hindu Swaraj’ by Mahatma Gandhi completed hundred years on November 13. “The party has decided to celebrate this occasion too in rural places,” he revealed.
He advised the activists to give added impetus to the programme of admitting members into the party. As organizational election process will be set into motion next year, the activists should speed up registration of members at all the block levels, he advised.
On this occasion, he felicitated Pratapchandra Shetty, who was recently reelected as the member of the state legislative council. District Congress president, M A Gafoor, delivered introductory address. Janardhan Tonse welcomed. Narasimhamurty proposed vote of thanks. Shekhar Madiwal compered the programme. Various party leaders like Vasant Salian, Pramod Madhwaraj, Kundapur block Congress president, Vasudev Yadiyal, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee observer, Sundaresh, and several other dignitaries were present.
