New Delhi, Dec 11: Uttar Pradesh moved into the quarter-finals with a win over Bengal while Himachal Pradesh tasted their first victory of the season in the Ranji Trophy Super League Thursday.
At Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh defeated Bengal by three wickets on the third day at the Green Park Stadium. Uttar Pradesh, resuming at overnight score of 53 for two in the second innings, acheived the target of 236 runs after Parvinder Singh scored 62 off 95 balls and captain Mohammed Kaif made 41.
Uttar Pradesh are now second in the group B with 18 points while Karnataka are on top with 23. Bengal are fifth with eight points.
At Surat, Himachal Pardesh tasted their first win of the season, a comprehensive six-wicket victory over Gujarat in Group A match.
Left-arm fast bowler Mohinder Sharma picked up five for 31 to bowl out Gujarat for a paltry 87 runs in the second innings. Gujarat easily achieved the target of 140 runs in the second innings with Mukesh Sharma remaining unbeaten on 52 and Hemant Dogra scoring 42.
