Udupi, Apr 3: The programme of distributing 5,000 liters of free milk to orphans and destitutes everyday till April 14 was inaugurated in the city on Friday April 3.
Speaking on the occasion, Raviraj Hegde, president of Dakshina Kannada Milk Producers' Federation, said, "From April 3 to 14, we will be distributing 5,000 liters of milk free of cost to already identified orphans, destitutes, daily wage labourers and poor people of society. This will help in systematically disposing of the additional milk that is getting accumulated due to the lockdown and also to support our farmers. KMF vehicles will deliver the milk to designated distribution points identified by the district administration manned by the government officials. They will then get the same delivered to the beneficiaries."
Additional DC Sadashiva Prabhu said, "This free distribution of milk by KMF will help the poorer section of the society as well as the animal husbandry farmers of the district. The district administration has taken steps to ensure smooth distribution of the same. Everyday inspection of the same will be done."
Later, shelterless people put up at Udupi board school were given free milk packets.
Municipal commissioner of Udupi, Anand Kallolikar, MD of KMF, Dr G V Hegde and manager of marketing division Dr Raviraj were present.
