Udupi, Mar 28: Deputy commissioner of Udupi G Jagadeesha has imposed additional restrictions on the movement of people and business hours of shops till April 14 during the nationwide lockdown.
In a press release, he stated that movement of people is restricted under CRPC section 144(3) to prevent spread of coronavirus. But shopkeepers are permitted to sell items of daily use such as vegetable, milk, fruits, meat, fish etc. by following social distancing.
The infected cases in Bhatkal and Dakshina Kannada are increasing day by day. In the circumstances it is necessary to limit the services rendered to people. In Karkala, buying of items is allowed only between 7 am and 11 am on experimental basis. The practice has been successful.
Therefore, it is decided to permit sales of grocery, medicine and other essential items only between 7 am and 11 am. The shops which sell such essential items are allowed to open their shops only during the stipulated duration. Citizens will have buy items of their daily needs such as vegetables, fruits, milk, meat and fish only within that period. Social distance between each other should be maintained mandatorily during shopping. The shops should be closed within the specified time. The restrictions do not apply to medical shops.
Criminal cases will be registered and legal action will be taken if people are seen unnecessarily going about on roads, stated the deputy commissioner in the official release.
