Mangaluru: ‘Complete lockdown on March 28, medical emergency only exception’ – Police chief

Mangaluru, Mar 27: Police commissioner Dr P S Harsha has said that complete lockdown will be enforced on Saturday, March 28 with only medical emergencies as an exception.

In an audio message, Dr P S Harsha said, “Our neighbouring district of Kasargod has 82 positive cases. Over 40,000 people are home quarantined. We had two more cases in Dakhsina Kannada today. Hence, as discussed in the meeting with district in-charge minister, MP, MLAs and other officials, a complete lockdown will be enforced tomorrow.

“No shops will be open tomorrow. No one should come on road except if there is any medical emergency. Police will not lathicharge anyone, but will be using loudspeakers to inform people to stay indoors. Personal vehicles like motorcycles and cars will not be allowed at any cost. Only trucks supplying essential goods will be allowed to ply on roads.

“Hence, it will be a complete lockdown. Police will be on rounds from 5.30 am. No one should be spotted on roads,” he said.

However, deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh said that milk, newspaper shops and pharmacy will be kept open.

    DK Police commissioner seems quite incompetent, along with his MP.

    instead of grandstanding, see how to deliver requirements to people's homes - then impose complete lockdown. acts like shutting district borders, arresting people who are out because of necessity are immature and do nor behove reps. of the Govt. These chaps have no movement restrictions and are able to get everything whenever required. Good if the DC, MP, Comm. learn from their Kerala counterparts - and quickly.

    Authorities must not panic. As PM mentioned essential items must be made available to people. It's already the 4th day and delivery services (SPAR, Big Bazaar, Zomato, Amazon, Swiggy) are all non-functional. MP Nalin Kateel promised to deliver goods to my doorstep on the 2nd day but I have not found any items there so far. Mangalore must be the only smart city where people love to horde and eat newspapers.

    Dear Sunil K, Mangalore - Certainly you will find the essential foodstuffs on your Doorstep delivered by India's No 1, (MP or PM) , not now BUT after 9 years , like Pumwell Bridge. Kindly have Patience, he is on DD (Delivery Duty) in some other area!!!!

    What does this mean ..... There is a severe lack of admin coordination between the Government and its departments. We can not create an emergency relief unit after the event has occurred, it must be in place. Can NDRF deal with Corona? They are meant for anti terrorism action only or at best, floods. We have wasted so much of time in our real-time governance, we could have been an efficient counter disaster force in the world had we applied our resources and created such action units. Even now it is time that we create units with proper gadgets and apparel to provide relief and safety to any contagion or virus. God bless.

    Complete lockdown is an impossible entity.Do you not think Boris Johnson and his health secretary are not educated about lockdown and they also tested positive. Ask any poor person in the country he will tell you it is better to die of Corona (mortality 4%) rather than hunger (nearly 100%) Social distancing without lockdown is the need of the hour.

    Everthing remains open without overcrowding, except central Ac, buildings Ac buses and Ac trains as it a airborne infection.Only milk vegetables and medicines are not the only essential items in the long run 75% of the items (except luxury and sin goods) will be essential. Few viruses or testing positive does not kill on the contrary it helps in developing immunity, only a large viral load is detrimental coupled with lack of immunity.Threre are other viruses waiting in queue (Hanta,MERS SARS EBOLA etc). Do not panic ,do not be afraid of this respiratory virus let the virus be afraid of you.Be Happy Be Healthy.

    Rightly said. Our city goes with a herd mentality. Someone shouts 'tiger' and everyone starts to run in all direction. The virus will do more harm if your body's immunity system is already compromised due to ageing and other ailments. In the long run only building an immunity will save us - and that will happen only when we are exposed to the virus and our body flushes it out OR a vaccine is developed (can be within 12-18 months)

    Governments told not to panic buy, we supported and now we are facing shortage of rice and other essential items at home, What we should do now, here at our place police ordering closer of even Nandini milk shop. They are announcing to closer of all shops including milk. We support every step of governments, but what steps governments taking to control shortage of essential goods.

    Do what the Jains in your home state do.Yes you guessed it right -Ektaanu.Your supplies will last 3 times.At present I am doing exactly what I learnt in Gujarat. Corona is a zoonotic infection,came from animals, it is claimed that it started in a animal market in Wuhan, one need not eat the things available in such markets to get it ,as the viruses spreads through air , going to such markets is enough to spread it ..Be Happy Be Healthy.

    Eventhough few go to procure something or for their personal urgent work the police should not lathi charge or beat them or use foul language as this happens not always. Urgency is always there. So police have to bear this in mind. They should not carry any laatis with them just announce and do their duty

    Sir it's a small request to make the police understand not to use harsh language when we come out due to emergency.

    Even we are responsible citizen of this country we abid to the rules and regulations. But even its is mention that u can come out if it's an emergency then why do the cops trouble you specifically the women.

    It is mention that we can go to the pharmacy, to buy milk then y do the cops create a sense even after showing our id cards and when we ask them to talk properly they click picture of my bike. A request please make it clear .

    Most if not all quarantined cases have come from abroad.And even if they were quarantined most of them have carelessly moved about in their buildings or had outside people visiting them.If they were infected they have surely transmitted the virus to their co-dwellers at home and they in turn would have visited groceries and who knows where. There is an app which shows the number of people quarantined in a certain locality and it throws up large numbers and that is why we really have to be scared.The Administration should treat the full housemates of the people who are quarantined as quarantined and stamp them and the neighbours should be alerted so that they are alert and use the proper distancing and Hygeine protocols. Blocking entry of people from Kasargod is a welcome step and should not be made to look political or racial.This is a temporary step and should be welcomed looking at the extreme gravity of the situation.

    What is the point of keeping milk and newspaper shops open if we cannot step out to buy them from the shops and delivery boys also cannot distribute them to our doosteps. Please don't confuse people with contradictory statements. Till date no proper system or arrangement in place for delivery of vegetables / fruits!! Such orders will promote panic buying and hoarding..... nothing else! District administration needs to buck up and publish clear plan of action and distribution of essential items so that people do not panic.

    Why this kind of decisions are broadcasted at night? What if someone was planning to buy food next day? I think we are going to pay for this kind of surprise announces.
    Please concentrate on fine tuning supply chain management. Otherwise it will collapse and there are chances of people enter into panic mode

    4th day of lockdown lead to this decision. District administration should really think twice before issuing complete lock down orders. Hope this order is lifted off tomorrow itself. Many people did not panic buy food grains thinking that there will be uninterrupted supply of essential services. If this order continues, people will get into trouble.
    Funny part is there will be milk and news paper.. but for whom? Who is going to buy??
