Mangaluru, Mar 27: All the commercial activities will be suspended in the district on March 28.

The decision was taken in the high level meeting chaired by district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary in the deputy commissioner’s auditorium on Friday.

Seven coronavirus cases are already reported in the district. Coronavirus positive cases have been increasing in the neighbouring Kasargod and Uttara Kannada district. The coming days will be all the more dangerous if public movements are not stopped. All should support the decision taken for better future of the people. The decision needs to be taken inevitably for the health of people. The prime minister and the chief minister have askaed everybody to stay at home and strictly maintain social distance.

In the circumstances, it was decided in the meeting to suspend all the activities, commercial affairs and completely close shops and establishments.

District MP, MLAs, district panchayat president, mayor and senior officials were present in the meeting.

    We have to cooperate with the authorities to contain the threat of community spreading of corona virus. But can it be treated as a law and order issue by restricting the movement of public to some stipulated timings. The real intention should be to avoid crowding of people. When the markets are kept open for a limited time, people will gather in large numbers to procure essential items. We can see that from the large crowd in the city market during morning hours. My suggestion is to extend the timings of market openings and at the same time control the entry of people as being done at present.

    Yes, the number of people infected in the US and Italy is high but people are also recovering - the number of recovered cases is not increasing because it needs around 2 weeks and 2 (negative) tests to confirm that the person infected has recovered and his body has developed anti-bodies to repel any future attacks. So expect the Recovered cases to increase in due course just like it did in China. The deaths are largely among people already suffering other chronic ailments and they were too weak to fight the virus.

    India sadly, is a state of total confusion and authorities are sending mixed signals.

    closing the stable after the horses have bolted. If only incoming air passengers in Mangalore were screened as thoroughly as in Kerala! Now let us all twiddle our thumbs saying it is 'fate' and inevitable. The state Govt (along with several more state Govts) was sleeping since Jan because it has now discovered that there is a shortage of PPE kits (for healthcare professionals), ventilators, beds.

Those who think all this is a joke will venture out. one must see BBC and CNN International channels to see the plight in 1st world countries like USA and UK, France etc. India is so heavily populated that if the situation gets out of hand it would be a doomsday.

    Without any prior intimation, if the administration declares complete lockdown, how shall the public manage food at home? When the lockdown is relaxed there will be high rush in stores and social distncing will be compramised. Request the local administration to ensure the proper supply of Vegetables and essentials before implementing such decisions

    Complete Lock Down or partial Lock Down is only Temporary Solution says
    WHO (World Health organization).
    So, permanent solution is that people should be asked
    to wear Mouth Mask and Thin hand gloves and STOP
    Lock Down by 7April, 2020 and let people go to work
    From 8th April 2020; otherwise the Entire Economy
    Will crash, India will be pushed to 21 yrs back and
    People will DIE due to HUNGER. I urge the Government
    To STOP Lockdown latest 7April, 2020. From 8th APRIL, 2020
    People should be allowed to go to work with Compulsory
    Mouth Mask and compulsory Hand gloves. In the mean time
    Our Scientists will surely come up with medicine or else China
    Will surely come with solutions. In China, everything is under control
    And people in CHINA are back to normalThanks

    This is why this govt cannot be trusted. They keep changing their stance ever so often. That is why people flock and flaunt rules to board stuff because they forsee this kind of hap hazard steps. No consistency, no keeping up with their words. Such a disgraceful administration, a meltdown like this could cause loss of lives as well. Lockdown is not the miracle cure for this situation. Social distancing , extensive testing, isolating suspectwd contacts and aggressively disinfecting Public places like in Korea needs to be done.

    Sudden complete lockdown after telling no need to panic is not the right way to go about atleast they should have intimated today morning about tommorow .we have lost faith in mangalore mla ,mp they will take a u turn anytime and anywhere as they want ,even if it is in favour of public intrest but you have to give prior intimation or else provide doorstep delivery .You have taken your decsion as you have pressure not for the people it feels so.

    Everybody just announces shut down in a hurry. No announcements about arrangements for supplying essentials. What happened to the announcement made by our MP regarding door step delivery of essentials. At least they can learn from other places where they are handling things so nicely

    Good decision as lock down. But the sad part is teenage boys don't understand the reason behind this cause. Still at places boys are continuing to play in grounds and crowd themselves for partying with friends. It's an humble request for the police officer to give rounds in all lanes to ensure people are not out.. It would be helpful if officers share a common number to complain about people disobedience.

    Good decision by the district administration. Since three days markets were so much crowded in Mangalore as if corona virus at sleep and will wake up at 12 pm so that people can buy as much as possible before corona wakes in the noon. It was also observed that vegetable , grocery , milk and chicken stall people were absolutely not wearing the mask and lockdown was taken so lightly . At least now let's strictly follow the rules enforced for our own betterment . Otherwise India will be a worst place very soon and corona will spread to each household .

    Its a good decision in spreading of the virus, but it is not implemented correctly they should arrange other things to supply groceries, vegetables and milks but no they completely shut down it, what a brilliant decision,
